We have a couple of sick scenes on the layout because we're pretty warped.

One of our members owns a few McDonald's Franchises, so we took the cheap shot. We've since added the Grim Reaper arguing with a personal injury attorney over the poor soul being jump-started on the street. Note the cop eating a donut.

There's another scene (and I can't find the photo) where a steam roller runs over a bicyclist. At first glance your mind says "Oh that's horrible!" Then you think about the whole scene. You have a paving crew, safety cones, signage, and a genius riding blindly on the wrong side of the road getting nailed by a machine moving at 3 MPH. Kinda like one of the last scenes in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

And second, here is Lord Peter Wimsey.  I have tried to recreate the scene in the opening animated credits of the Peter Petherbridge movies where he hands Harriet Vane a flower, except I use the car from the books (Daimler Double Six Corsica) rather than the Rolls in those images.

While I used to be a stand-up comedian years ago and do cartoons for various publications, I have zero need for whimsy on my soon-to-exist (On30) layout. I find whimsy annoying in many cases as the local layouts I know who have it are just so darned cheesy (one has a UFO being recovered by the Army) when you're counting rivets elsehwere.

Another thing that drives me nuts are figures on a layout in a motion pose. I've never understood figures trapped frozen in a running pose when the trains are moving. So my layout will only have standing or sitting figures, none in any motion poses. And I have all my figures already (several Tamaiya WW2 GI figures had to modified to static poses just for this reason).

That said, my layout will take place in the middle of WW2, and I already have all the fugures painted and set up for a poker game to take place beside a depot while they're waiting for their train. And there'll be an MP (again, all these figures are complete already) being distracted by another GI on the other side of the same structure. That's as close to whimsy as I'll be getting. I laid out WW2 era playing cards and silver certificates onto a WW2 GI blanket, took an overhead photo of it, and printed the photo out several times, building the layers of photos to create a 3D photo of the real thing. It looks really good if I do say so myself (need to get some shots of that eventually, I think there might be an MR or RMC magazine article in that concept)...

Aaaaww-man, talk about whimsy! I decided to have a Thanksgiving Day (NYC) / Miracle Mile (Chicago?) / Rose Bowl (Pasedena?) type stumpy li'l parade down a street once-upon-a-time, and crafted it for removal post-holidays, which it was.

The figures are supposed to "model"/represent parade floats and/or balloon figures carried aloft by marchers.

What d' ya' think?

Thanks, Marty, good to hear from you and to have your approval for my parade!

And Thank You to Alibatwomble, Leavingtracks, and Spence for sending me those "Likes" for my parade, too!

I much appreciate the feedback and your kindness.

FrankM.

Here's another moment from my pre-Holiday parade modeling...a 'Benz limo with fairytale characters, Snow White and Tinker Bell, riding with Santa and waving "Hello" to the community as they make their progress down the main street in Moon Township...
