No - not close, actually. MTH has made a Premier (1:48) version (as well as a smaller RK version, I think).

Strangely, the Williams Rectifier is 1:48 or close to it, though the trucks are incorrect and I seem to recall the handrails being the thick, stamped variety (some stamped handrails look better than others, however).

I'd go for the Premier MTH for the best model, and, probably, the Williams for the best price - but shop around.

Thanks for the replies!

I wasn't sure if the LIONEL model was the same train as the other brands.

I like the dimensions of the Williams model - but the "sell" on the stamped handrail seems to be paint scheme dependent.

I'm looking at the New Haven versions - on Williams, the yellow handrail's contrast announces that part too much.

But, the same handrail is not so bad on AMCDAVEs NW example.

Worth noting LIONEL's use of 4 wheel trucks - instead of 6...just like the LIONEL EP-5s.
