At the two train shops I regularly patronize neither had the hard copy catalogs yet, has anyone gotten their hands on one, this despite the fact that they've been on-line for several weeks at least.

Maybe some prefer on-line versions but catalogs (or just about anything) in print is still my preference. Something about holding and paging through the hard copy.

I saw the online version and, frankly, it was very disappointing. No big steam with big features.  No Vision products.  The only item of any interest to me at all, and not enough to want to buy it because of the type and road, is the steamer with the steam chest (was it?) feature.  Overall, Meh.  Rather save a tree than have a copy of this one.

IMG_3326I picked up a copy of the latest Lionel catalog last week from Fred at Fred's Train shop in KC.

There are many options in the catalog for people spanning all points in their model railroad journey.

I received an early copy to study while I re-architect his web site behind the scenes.

Call Fred and see if he has one available for you. Let him know Chris referred you and you will have his undivided attention.

Well, although the online catalog is nice, there is nothing like the hard copy version, a nice lounge chair, Lazy Boy Recliner, no one around, a good cold glass of Coca Cola, and good lighting. Then one can turn page by page and see how the new trains of today are so really nice with all of the new electronics. Blue tooth and I-Pad technology, even for Old Folks, can be fun and challenging. I plan on a Fun Saturday night...Thank You Lionel. I have the new catalog.

mine arrived in the mail on Friday from my friends at Eastside Trains near Seattle.  The orders are due by October 7.  I also enjoy reading the hard copy. I hope this is the last time they use the dark background, I think the grey background makes the engines and cars pop out better in the hard copy. Its especially odd looking for the miniature pictures for the engines that are show below the big image, for example the Great Northern E6 on page 17, which is outlined in white.

Why not light up a cigarette while sipping that Coca Cola?

What, me worry?

We looked at the prices and decided to not hock the diamond bracelet to afford a new item.  Now we're glad we bought all those locomotives and cars a decade ago.  Most all have command control which works fine on our "software release frozen" layout.  For a few new structures and freight cars, Menard's fills the bill just fine at reasonable prices.

...  When is the drop date for ordering?  I need to know when I need to make my mind up by.

I've heard dates like Oct 4-8 tossed around.  But in reality, larger dealers will order plenty of extra's anyway.  So there's absolutely no need to rush into anything at the moment.  I haven't even thought about pre-ordering anything since looking at the catalog when it first came out a few weeks ago.
