Last weekend I went to Greenberg's Train Show at the big Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington MA just outside of Boston. Two things caught my attention right away - fewer vendors and higher prices.

Last year I was chatting with one of the vendors who came down from nearby New Hampshire, and he said he liked doing the shows in Pennsylvania because he could always sell his products at higher prices.

Maybe New England's train show price points are approaching those of the Keystone state?

I’m from Massachusetts and haven’t been to that show. I will be heading to their show in Edison NJ to meet with friends this weekend.

With the exception of Amherst, the Ma shows don’t have the vendors or the deals in my opinion. Another disappointing thing is any local dealers don’t attend those shows in fact Charles Ro doesn’t attend Amherst in Springfield.

Amherst in Springfield is really huge. I've never seen anything like it. Several enormous buildings with vendors and manufacturers. Unfortunately, they always have this show in January - where the winter weather can really disrupt your travel plans. Last January I intended to stop in on my way home from a ski weekend in Vermont - but it was snowing so furiously that I decided just to bypass Springfield and get home before the roads got too messy.

One of my favorite shows is way up in Northern VT at St Albans. They have it at a big hockey rink building. Its usually in early March. If you live in New England or New York, it's worth the drive. I usually fit it in with a 3-day ski weekend.
