The NMRA's Wasatch Rails 2013 is on Nov 1-3 in Salt Lake City at Utah State Fair Park. They are the only show scheduled for this time of year (

My favorite Utah train shop in the Layton area is closing down due to the health of the owner. Have only been to the Train Shoppe a few times, decent inventory not sure about the prices. Stuff I have seen them selling at the Hostler show in Ogden seems a bit high

If you have time take a Saturday and ride the FrontRunner up to Ogden. The Utah State Rail museum is at the Ogden Union Station and well worth the trip. They have the UP 833, sister to the 844 and a UP Turbine on display. They are about 100 yds South of the Ogden FrontRunner Station. You will also want to check out Historic 25th street east of the station.

The Union Station has Warrens train shop but that is about 99% HO. Ogden has the Wonderful World of Trains which is mostly O, and is a  few miles from Southeast of the station (about 30th and Washington)
