I will have my Standard gauge set running under the tree this year.
I have the MTH. B & O passenger set ready to go, just the train, no buildings or switches.
Last year I had the Polar Express running.

No...although a family member, who has no interest in trains whatsoever, did buy, on a whim, two MPC Lionel sets for $50 at a garage sale so those may get tossed up if I can get my hands on them. They'll be good considering the kids, dog, and general chaos that can come with the entire family running around. I'd rather bang one of those up than one of my nice steam engines.
Yes Sir. Really looking forward to letting the grand-kids experience lionchief. No more "you can push this button and that button but don't touch the dial in the middle"
Going to try this year! My only concern is the 1 year old Golden Retriever running around that may see them as toys...
I doubt it. All I have is my European LGB starter set and a loop of track from when I was into G scale (I bought that set in Amsterdam and I can't bring myself to get rid of it) but no power pack as I only have DCC on my On30 layout.
For the same reasons, I couldn't run my On30 stuff even if I wanted to without buying a controller for the rail power. And the rolling stock I now have for that is pretty fragile anyway.
I don't think we decorated for Christmas at all last year now that I think on it as we were both drowning in overtime. It's just my wife and I as we have no kids.
Not under the tree, but running. Our dog likes to attack the trains when they run, so opted to set up the trains upstairs where they can be protected. This way, when Christmas is over, the trains can stay out for my daughter to continue playing.
This is the only dog I have owned that has attacked my Lionel trains. All the others have ignored them or watched them run on the floor. (Maybe he is an American Flyer fan?)
Yes, I'll have my trains running under the Christmas tree again this year!!!
Too old for under the tree, but we will put up a display that is raised up off the floor with a tree on it. Thinking about Lionel Pre War O this year.

Of course. It's already been decided by the family: Polar Express this year.
Lee/p51: LGB streetcars are what we had under the tree last year - complete with catenary. Put'em up, you've got the DC power already, or just get another cheap DC transformer. If you've got a European plug on the LGB power, get an adapter on amazon or something, but run them. Good heavens, man, would you have a naked tree on Christmas morn?
Yes, Yes and yes, can't wait.
No. Anybody who wants to see trains run, must come upstairs to the layout.
Two trees, two trains...both Lionel postwar pulling passenger cars. Both engines are very happy reliving the "old days".
Hah! Funny Uh, no....
There was that little Coal Scented smoke incident back in 2011....what else should a steam engine smell like????
Gilly
Have to continue the family tradition that started in ~1951 .... the same PW 2046 set running around the tree on tubular track.
Yes, once again in a small loop.
This year will be a hodgepodge consist:
Good heavens, man, would you have a naked tree on Christmas morn?
Didn't have a tree at all last year. Just got hardwood floors put in a couple of weeks ago and my wife is downright crazed about getting it scratched. We haven't discussed it yet but I doubt she'll want a tree in there for fear she'll scratch the floors...
as soon after Thanksgiving as The Boss will let me, even before we have a tree! She's been really lenient the past few years, allowing the train platform to come up and stay up after Christmas when she realized I spent more time in the living room instead of the basement when the trains are in there.
The Polar Express and the Silver Bell Express will be running under the trees and of course The Milwaukee Special with its Mighty Sound of Steam will also be running on the coffee table next to the Christmas Tree. Oh yeah, and a bump & go Trolley on the windowsill.
Our Christmas Tree is already up and I haven't yet decided what train to run under it. But there will be one for sure.
Absolutely! A tradition for the past 26 years. I haven't decided if it will be O gauge, standard gauge, G scale.......
Probably not... I'll be offshore for most of December and despite my gf's best efforts, the cats knock it off the tracks constantly. I'll just have to run the Christmas train on a table.
You Bet ,
Two trees and two trains. Under the first will be the Polar Express. Under the second will be a SG set. Consisting of a #8, 32, 35 & 36. This is the first year when I don't know who will be coming.
God's Blessings,
"Pappy"

We use a gate across the entrance to our living room where the tree and train live to keep the dogs out. We won't give up either our dogs or the train around the tree.

My wife asked me to put one up this year. I was surprised.
Just a little 031 loop with a few cars, probably PW power. I just love the PW trains at Christmas even though I only buy modern era stuff.

Train under the tree? You bet! I'm gonna break a few American Flyers and set up in the back room - my daughter's favorite part is the holiday village with the lights and vehicles. Not sure if I'll have anything directly under the tree, but maybe a G gauge train...
Yes, even though I do spend a lot more time putting up the manger scene outside I still have to put some kind of train under the tree.
It's just the kid coming out in me.
Larry
BAH HUMBUG!!!! LOL Just kidding, but, no. Used to put up an S scale layout with dept 56 Snow Village houses under the tree. These days my wife has bought toooooo much furniture for me to be moving it around. So, just a tree maybe but no trains.
Rick
G Scale to prevent cats causing tip-overs etc. I got tired of re-railing equipment. I run a green Southern Mogul with red open platform DRG coaches for Christmas colors.
Absolutely! Here is a short video of the tinplate cars I just finished restoring.

Can't use a gate in my house, which was built in 1910. The main room (parlor) can't be easily blocked off with gates. Besides, I have been wanting a small layout upstairs to operate through the year.
I set up my tree earlier than normal this year....2nd weekend in Oct! TM Books and Videos was at my home to film my Christmas Train Layout a couple weeks ago and it will be one of the layouts featured in their next video release, Toy Train Revue Part 4. It should be out in few weeks. I have 7 trains running around my tree…many of my Southern Steam Engines with Southern passenger Cars & freight, Milwaukee Road 261 with passenger Cars and Charlie Brown & Lucy Handcar. Ken
Absolutely! This year, it will be a LCT 262E with blue and silver passenger cars.
Yes, and hopefully the wife will spare enough room to run all 39 club cars that I've collected since 07.
Don
Each year we do a loop or two here at my house and I take video of the trains and my daughter's watching the trains.
It's fun to see the kids and the number of trains grow as time progresses, here's the link to the first year:

And here is last year's video:

Can't wait to get this year's video done!
My tree is already up and the trains are running. I set mine up a little early this year since I'll be doing a good bit of deer hunting in West Virginia and New Jersey during the latter part of November and early December. My Grandchildren will enjoy them on Thanksgiving Day. This year I'm running the Lionel post war 746 on my O Gauge loop and the MTH Tinplate Traditions green 381E with the orange 428 through 431 Passenger cars on the Standard Gauge loop. My layout is very similar to last year's with only some minor changes.
