While I fully recognize the "click-baitie" nature of this video, it was honestly one of the most fun to ever film and provides a lot of laughs. My fiance, Shelby, was never into trains aside from the Polar Express and trains around the Christmas tree.  Nor do I ever expect her to be into trains like I am. But she does recognize and appreciate the love and joy I have for the hobby and humors me when I ask her to do a silly video such as this one. Does your spouse support your hobby, or at least recognize the joys/benefits it brings you?

Congrats on your engagement.

"Ya wanna come down the basement to see my trains?" - you're lucky she didn't run away screaming, especially since she had never been in a basement before.   And 'being into trains is ok, as long as you don't have a Youtube channel about it' - more classic comedy.

I'm quite fortunate that my significant other enjoys the hobby.  She enjoys building scenery.  When I find something at York that needs to be carried back to the car, she volunteers to take it out so that I can keep looking.  And she's become a wizard at packing the trunk.  We even have a little ceremony in the parking lot before the start of the meet where I place her badgeholder around her neck.  I've videod it, but she'd kill me if I shared it, so you'll have to trust me that it's funny.

Congrats to both of you!

I am horribly disappointed because she wasn’t asked any of the truly existential questions facing humanity today—you know, whether or not you should switch to 2-rail—Lionel, MTH or 3rd Rail/Sunset—which is best—and most importantly, would you ever consider another scale…

Congrats! And I just realized you're from Cleveland! We're practically neighbors. Lol. As I had just sold the last of my postwar on Sunday I found an awesome deal on a k-line Hudson. My wonderful brides reaction "Honey, you only live once, enjoy it and buy that engine!" She does truly support me in the hobby. And the kiddos love it too!

Excellent video, Jason and Shelby!  Congratulations!!  What a great sport Shelby is doing this video with you.

Thirty-nine years ago, my wife gave me an N-scale engine for an engagement present.  She still encourages the hobby, though she is much like Shelby in not really having much interest herself.  My wife says it is good, because she always knows where I am.  She would like Wally and Henry as well!

@jdstucks asked;

"Does your spouse support your hobby, or at least recognize the joys/benefits it brings you?"

For me, she thinks my hobby is a bit silly but she supports it.  She does recognize that I enjoy doing it, so she lets me tinker for hours without intervening.  That being said, I really didn't get back into the hobby until after I was retired for a couple of years and I was driving her nuts.  My getting back into trains allowed her to regain her sanity with me around the house all day.  Not sure how that would have worked if I did trains while I was employed.

Congratulations!

Jason and Shelby:

Looking forward a decade or so ...

If/when children arrive in your family, you'll have a new "excuse(s)" to buy more trains and make layout improvements "for the sake of the kids."  It worked for me as I indulged our great grandkids with THOMAS trains, a kid-friendly Dinosaur Park,  and action accessories they love to operate.

Congratulations on your engagement!

When your video appeared in my YouTube playlist, I almost passed on it.  I am glad I didn't!  It was a fun video, and she is a lovely lady! She reminds me of my wife at that age, who has always been supportive of my hobby.

I wish you both a lot of life, love and happiness together, as well as a lot of....well, you know, the last scene of "North By Northwest":

Day before the wedding:  "I'm so happy that you enjoy your trains and that it is a hobby we can enjoy together."

One year later:  "I'm sick and tired of your stupid trains, and going to your stupid train shows, and watching you blow our money on your stupid toys   Grow up!"

The solution is to always buy your spouse a gift roughly equivalent to what you just spent on the trains. Thus I've always had an unlimited budget on model train purchases!

Jason,  Congrats on the engagement!  Thanks for sharing the video.  A confident man should never be embarrassed by having model trains as a hobby.  There are many ways to make it a family activity,  and I think you are on the right track.  Best wishes to you and Shelby!

Jason and Shelby - Congratulations

When is the BIG Day?

Loved your video - you kids are definitely having fun - may it always stay that way.

Jason, its nice that your better half is involved with your hobby and that she is understanding of it.  Hopefully it stays that way for many years.

You'll make a great set of parents sometime in the future.  Best of luck to you both and may God's blessings always be upon you both.

There are other hobbies.  My sweetheart is a 20 year participant, 4H sewing. There were several prom dresses, and a wedding dress.  At 74, I can still carry the sewing machines, she, not so much.   She still  patches my blue jeans.

Her skill with a paint brush, did well, with several back-drops for the layout.

Jason as soon as I saw your video I immediately told my wife "Theres's a train video you need to watch". I'm sure she was thinking "Not another one", but as always she said "Sure".  This video caused a lot of very enjoyable reminiscing, for both her and I. If I had to guess I would say Shelby is a lot like my wife intelligent, a little sassy and has the ability to make you feel like the boss when in reality she knows she's the real boss. ALWAYS REMEMBER SHE'S THE BOSS!  Many happy years. Dwayne and Juanita.

This comment made both me and Shelby smile. Thank you for sharing this.
