Having a problem with one of my "O" gauge Atlas switchtracks.  As my engine goes over the track there it sounds like a thumping sound as if part of the engine is hitting something on the track.  I have checked and checked and cannot identify the problem.  Has anyone experienced this problem?  I am at my wits end and am about to buy a new switchtrack.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

It sounds as if the locomotive wheel may be hitting the frog point. If the opposite stock rail guard  is loose or missing the locomotive wheel will not smoothly traverse the gap between the frog point and the closure rail causing the wheel(s) to nick or pick the frog point resulting in a thumping sound. Check the guard rails first to make sure their integrity is intact.
