Resently purchased used MTH 30-1305 / B&O ps2  2-8-8-2 Mallet.   All continuity checked , greased and oiled everything and cleaned wheels.   Added it to the DCS remote  REV L TIU ( 6.1 ) and 2 seperate Z1000s on Fixed 1 and 2 .   It ran well and still does.

However , my PREMIER 20-21240-1 /Santa Fe ps3 F7 doesn't play well with this Mallet. 🤢

When I have the Mallet on the layout wether it is on or shutdown it relegates the F7 to the inactive list and the remote shows it as" no engine on track " and it can't be recovered.  Clean wheels , wire connections , continuity checks.... everything looked good on the F7.

When I remove the Mallet from the layout the F7 can be recovered and becomes fully operational.   It can then operate perfectly again in the lash up with the 20-21241-1 /F7.

When the Mallet is placed back on the layout ( on or shutdown ) every one of the other 23 live Premier ps3 and RK ps3 and ps 2 locomotives operate with all functions. 🤔  ........but guess who goes back to the inactive list 😭

The Santa Fe lash up is 1 of 4 lash ups on the layout .

I didn't think there would be any crossover between engine signals with the spread in the engines numerical address or road names or proto type differences or that one is a diesel and the other a steamer.

Any ideas ?  🤕

I'll get it opened up G.

I'm not sure how to get the pictures on search but I have a fair idea of what you speak.

Earlier today I did start up the Santa Fe AAB passenger train .

I was able to get the in question F7 to work under two conditions.  1)  I placed the F7 behind the second F7 .( normally run the two As forward in front of the B unit )   2)  I only started the the Santa Fe s with another lash up before I fired up the ps2 Mallet.

Even though the A unit worked in the lash up , while running,  it would show the problem A as inactive ..When I shut everything down I tried to reintroduce it to the list and I would get " no engine on track ".     Of course by removing the Mallet , I was able to rescue the A back to the active list and resume normal operations with the lash up.

I'll have to get my screwdriver out now .

You need to see if the capacitors are up on the PS-3 F-7 with harness wires run over the board.  If so, lift wires off board, fold capacitors over so they are horizontal and lay wire harness back over the caps.   That may be issue.  Search will show this topic with some pictures.  G

A big thanks G.😉
