I just discovered this removes with two screws, and 5/8" could be sawed off to bring steps in line, and eliminate "porch". However, then a long shanked coupler would be sticking out. Don't suppose there is a shorter coupler that would work with this loco and tender? Obvious solution would be an update kit, but that is not going to happen.

Only thing would be a kadee coupler. That’s a pretty short coil coupler as it is.
Yep, that is what l am looking at, and the two screws. Makes the "porch" look like an afterthought when they found out coupler length problem. Coupler does not look to be wired in, so could, with a shorter mechanism, be easily replaced.
I don't think the PS3 Russians have the porch. Maybe MTH redesigned the coupler mount to the truck so that the pivot is inboard of the last axle instead of outboard as it is in the photos above.

You could call mrmuffin and find out for sure.
If the PS3 mounting bracket or the whole new truck was available as a part from MTH, you could get rid of the porch.
Does somebody have the later version they could post excellent pictures of, as those above? À shortened screw-on rear frame would be a great fix!
