Ok so finally reached the stage where I have a track plan I like and reliable running. So do I make up dummy ties or do I just ballast showing the odd tinplate tie.

I can't for the life of me decide. To add ties will take ages and still not look anything less than toy like.

How has anyone come to a decision? What do you think looks best? Anyone got any pics?

I would welcome some thoughts.

I used tinplate track on my layout and didn't bother to add extra ties.  I also violated one of the 10 commandments of the O gauge gods and used kitty litter to ballast my track.

How you do yours is entirely up to you.  You are the only person you need to please when it comes to your track.

I've attached two pictures of my layout so you can see what the track looks like without the extra ties and the aforementioned kitty litter ballast.

Hi Curt and SJC - very cool layouts! I do like that ballasted look you have both captured - I think that answers my question as to the way to go.

Curt - I have read comments about the kitty litter idea - yours looks great. I shall probably use a brand of chicken grit/shells that I have seen. I will post how I get on.

Harry - I will check out page 12 thank you.
