Not surprising, i.e. the extra ditch lights. The actual concept of the ditch lights was originally developed by what was then the British Columbia Railway. The light on the left front of the unit was angled toward the right, while the light on the right front of the unit was angled toward the left. The result was that the operating crew could sort of "see around the sharp curves" and just might be able to see well enough in advance of a rock/mud slide into the trackside ditches and also onto the track/rails.

Look carefully at the photo and you will see that the lower "extra" lights are sharply angled toward the opposite side of the right of way.
