Many years ago I wanted an auxiliary tender to go along with my MTH RailKing Norfolk & Western Y6B. The costs of the manufactured aux tenders was too prohibitive for me so I turned an unlettered starter set tender into an aux tender. The only decals I could get at the time were white so that's what I used.
When added to the Y6B recently I realized I had to address some issues, the gap between tenders was too great, my aux tender was too light and the white decals just weren't cutting it. Well I'm working on those issues and I'm stuck on removing the old decals. At the time I made the tender my painting capabilities were limited so once the decals were applied I used the Pledge Futura method of clear coating the decals for protection. The Pledge can be seen clearly in the photo above. definitely not as good as a good spray of matte clear across the whole tender.
Now I'm trying to remove these decals and am not having much success. I first tried alcohol. This helped remove the Pledge but did nothing to the decals themselves. I tried a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and removed the "ERN" letters but not the underlying decal film. I've been letting some Micro Set work on it for over an hour with no result. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
