I am having a tough time finding O scale items on Shapeways. Type in 1/48 or O scale and all the scales show up. Anyone have a good category to search for O scale? Thanks in advance.

I have looked at their site before, and they are quite skimpy in the way of O scale stuff. I know a little bit about CAD (computer-aided design) and will be learning more in the future. Maybe I can fix the problem. But until then, oh well.....
Market place, miniatures, model trains. Depends on what you looking for. Handyman & Sons trains sells kadee mounts for Lionel and Atlas engines and rolling stock.
I just looked there a couple days ago, and it struck me as a disorganized dumping ground of mostly overpriced junk. If someone has a better experience to share, I'm all ears.
Yes, there's a lot of overpriced stuff on Shapeways....BUT most of it is stuff that's very specialized or unobtainable elsewhere. If you've been looking hard for an item without finding it...and suddenly it's available, price may be no object if you really want it. Sure, common items that are mass produced are cheap. Custom built items ARE expensive. And the price of stuff on Shapeways is based primarily on it's uniqueness. Sort of the difference between an Art Print and a commissioned painting. Like anything else, it's worth what you're willing to pay to own it. If it's unobtainable elsewhere, most are willing to pay more. But I agree, Big Boy 4005, it's no place to look for bargains.

Correction on name Gandyman & Sons Trains http://www.shapeways.com/shops/gandyman
I will agree that Shapeways could be better organized. When searching try key words GP30.SD24. Also If you see something you like but its in HO. Contact the designer and ask I he could upsize to 1;48
I agree Shapeways could be better-organized. Every now and again you see useful parts or details you could use, but the odds are worse than Vegas that you could find them again.
If the Powers-that-be at shapeways could be inspired to allow people like use to use scales as genuine categories, as well as categories like "building" or "fixtures," shopping at Shapeways could be something other than trying to find a very small needle in a barn full of multiple haystacks.
After posting my previous comment here, I went back to Shapeways last night. I found the model railroad category, but the scales listed don't go larger than S. I know there are O scale offerings out there, maybe even some G, but finding them is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Keep in mind Shapeways started in the Netherlands, which may be one of the main reasons the larger scales get no love.
Nice thing about the designs. They can be upscaled to O scale. A while back a forum member had posted about having a correct UP water tender made. The builder had offered it in HO or OO. The member inquired and the guy made it for him.
That is a nice thing about digital files, they can be resized to any scale fairly easily for printing. If you are working with a 3D scanner, it is always better to start with the largest scale model possible, then reduce it. This will capture the detail better.
