Awesome! can you let us know if this one is black? I don't think this question was ever settled when the catalog came out. If it is black I want one. If not then I don't.

There was more than one post from Lionel employes here that said it is yellow.  Pity as I wanted black as well, but it's not a deal breaker.  I'll love me my yellow tender.

Now, when will the cabooses that were in the catalog with the Big Boys be in?  That's all I'm waiting on once I get the tender is my caboose, then my train will be complete.

So sad... Please do one in black Lionel... this was a perfect opportunity dropped.

Why? Currently, both UP auxiliary water tenders are yellow, and have been yellow for more than 20 years.

Have you tried locating either of the following Lionel offerings?

• 6-11226:  LEGACY Union Pacific aux tender (black, circa 2010/2011)
• 6-38007:  TMCC Union Pacific aux tender (black, circa 2001/2002)

Yes I have both legacy and TMCC version... Paid an insane amount for the Legacy version... totally not worth it. would like another but not at the going rate. Would be cheaper to buy yellow and paint black.

Interesting to see a couple of dealers now show that they're expecting more units of #2171 from Lionel after indicating sold-out on their websites.  Wonder what's up with that?  Especially for a BTO item.    Maybe Lionel made a few "extra's" after all, and they missed the first boat!

Received mine yesterday.  Can confirm the yellow paint.  It did not include a Legacy Module, not that you really need one, but it does save time fumbling through the name. It had one of those legacy memory module inserts in the manual, but the dealer said that they do not send them any more with these kinds of tenders.

Pity, the reefer didn't come with one either, and I wish it did.

I get the partial shipment thing.  We've seen that happen often over the years.  But the nuance here with the Y6b pertained to dealers showing "sold out" (and therefore not taking more orders).  Now that a follow-up shipment is due, some dealers are accepting "pre-orders" again.  Not quite what we'd expect for a strictly BTO product.  But I don't want to take the thread off topic here... Just making an observation.

David, they are just the remaining units. Nothing sinister here. You do know that we do buy a few extra BTO items for stock, but lately those units have sold out before they arrive also. 

Not suggesting anything "sinister" , Charlie.  Just thought perhaps Lionel found a "few extra" they wanted to pump through the supply chain.  That's all.  I think it's great that larger dealers order a few extra units as well, 'cause folks may be inclined to buy once they see what's been delivered.
