Using O-72, is there an accepted measurement regarding how far the boiler overhang would be from center rail to clearence for scale Big boys and Scale Challengers (UP) from MTH and Lionel?
Mike, for what it is worth. The measured overhang for my MTH Big Boy on Gar Grave O72 is 3 1/16-inch. That is an actual dimension of overhang. You need to add clearances.
An addendum to info. The above is the outside "overhang." The "inhang" (inside overhang) for MTH BB is 1 1/2-inch. Both dimensions are from center rail center line.
I know that the VL-BB has just about a 3" overhang from C/L on Ross O72 track. I can also state that the MTH scale Big Boy has more overhang, but I haven't measured it. We got the club layout running everywhere with my VL-BB right before the pandemic hit, and when I brought the MTH Big Boy over, it promptly crashed into a tunnel portal on a curve that the VL-BB cruised right past.
