I am getting a little frustrated, pulling trains out that were stored for about three years and a lot of the functions are going. Tonight set up my boom car with my TMCC crane. It worked for a while and after couple minutes no sound. I tried resetting the number and then I hit aux1-0but no luck. Does anyone know if there is a way to reset the soundboard?

We had the crane and boom car sitting in a yard track (parallel tracks on ether side)
The Big hook operated just fine but the boom car had the same issues as yours.
The fix.... We moved the boom car to the main line and the thing behaved as it should. Weird! Hope you're as lucky.
Here is the owners manual:

However, I could not find a reset code no.
Have you turned power on / off then hit aux1 zero/ R?
I would email Lionel Customer service for a code number.
You may try a battery, sometimes I lose sound on switch frogs.
Did you turn the volume down?
Using TMCC mode if in Legacy. The two pieces are set up as a TR. Check that. if you assigned a new id# to the crane then you need to rebuild the TR.
I will look for the default reset code sheet. Somewhere in all of the files on this machine.

I don't think that the crane/boom car have a reset code. I think people on the Forum have commented on this before. Someone with a Lionel technical background may be able to say whether one of the other TMCC reset codes will work.
The boom car does have a sound off/on switch which I have tripped by accident. That might be your problem although as noted above I'd check the TMCC control to see if you've toggled AUX1, 8 (sounds off) by mistake.
Thanks for the input guys. I have done all the obvious things. Not a newbie with this , just been away for awhile due to moving after Hurricane Sandy. Used to be on the demo team for TMCC for Lionel. It seems like there are some issues if these electronics sit for two to three years. I have a J1e Hudson that lost its command mode, a Lionmaster Cab Forward that lost headlight, classification lights and number board lights. I'm still having fun though, even going back to York after several years absence.
The same thing happened to me. I sent mine to Lionel and it came back working except for having no crew or worker sounds.
I have not worked on one of these before but just noticed that while they have common Railsounds 5 audio boards, the radio board appears to be a compact version, possibly unique to this car. I wonder if the problems lie in this board. Probably not room here to replace it with a standard R2LC/R4LC. I'll have to check mine out.

I just fixed one of these. The receiver is unique, so if that's dead, you'll have to get it from Lionel.
I start by taking the RS board out and testing it in my test stand. If that's good, I check all the wiring to make sure nothing's loose. If all else fails, then it's quite possibly the TMCC receiver.
This is the receiver, I just replaced one of these to revive a crane car.

I had a similar thing happen to mine. I pulled the roof off the caboose and found that one of the wires had slipped out from under the wire nut. Simple thing to check and fix if that's the problem.

Hello all.
The same thing happened to me.
I tested with another audio board from one GP30 : sound
When I put the Boom Car audio board in my GP30 : sound
When I put the GP30 audio board in my Boom Car : sound
When I put the Boom Car audio board in my Boom Car : no sound
So strange.
