Bought a new MTH Z-4000. No power on the right side control. Any suggestions on a fix other than sending it back to MTH for repair?

when you turn the power switch on what happens, does the red short light come on and stay on?If you don't have the throttle completely closed the red short light will come on and stay on. on power up both throttles should be fully closed and on power up you will see the red short light come on for a quick self test and then should go off.
If that is working correctly then make sure the circuit breaker is not tripped on the transformer, there's one breaker for each throttle.
good luck
Alan
Hi Alan,
Thank you for the reply. When I turn the power on with both throttles turn off the red light comes on for a second and then the green light stays on. Where is the circuit breaker?

Swafford
Both handles need to be all the way down before turning on the main power (toggle switch). Then left side needs to be powered up first, followed by right side.
Swafford,
Where is the circuit breaker?
There are 4 white circuit breakers, one for each throttle and one each for the 14 volt and 10 volt accessory outputs.
There are two on each side of the Z4000.
Gentlemen,
Thank you.................. I checked the circuit breakers and powered up as suggested and have power on both sides now!
Thanks,
Swafford
Good Day,
How do you open the fuse box? I see no MTH instruction on how to open and check the fuses.

Swafford
There ware no fuses in a Z4000; only circuit breakers.
Hi Barry,
So............how long do I push down and hold the circuit breaker button? 10 seconds?
Regards,
Frank
Assuming you don't have a fault condition, the breakers will reset as soon as you press the button.
Bring it back to the store for a replacement

You don't need to power up the left side first. Once the transformer starts you power up which ever handle you need. G

So it is fixed? Sounds like a breaker reset did it? G

As he said.
Side note. Older Z4000, like the ones we use for the Fort Pitt High Rail layout can develop a "no trip" problem and need service repair. Considerable use and many trip cycles we have had both Z4000's repaired. Interesting to note that usually circuit breakers fault to open/no track power, but these circuit breakers just stopped working.
Thank you for your help gentlemen but I still have an issue. Pushed the breaker several times with the transformer on and off. Controller on both side down all the way. Still no power on the right side. I guess I need to send this to MTH for repairs.

Swafford
I would do what Charlie suggested and see if the shop you purchased it from will swap it out for you.
