Just received my new George Bush #4141 and the bottom steps on the same side of the engine broke off during shipping. First off for me its not a major issue just more of an annoyance. When I received the UP #1943 I had the same issue so I just glued them back on. What makes it more difficult to glue is when the little tabs snap off. I wonder if its possible for Lionel to not attach the steps and just include them in a bag to be attached by the customer? Just thinking out loud.

The bottom steps were broken off both Lionel SD70M-2's I received last week.
Just got the lionel 4141 today and same issue. Both bottom steps on left side of loco broke off during shipping. Also some decent abrasion marks on the top of the locomotive. I'll keep it, but I expect better for that much money spent.
Just got a new SD70AH same thing fireman side bottom steps broken. Like you said easily glued back in place but a nuisance like you said
This kind of news really makes me feel good about getting the George Bush set in July. Probably, the SD70's are setting in a warehouse waiting for the cars and set box to arrive. Maybe I should ask the dealer to examine it before he ships it to me. I know Lionel is doing the George Bush set with the diesel and 4 U.P. cars. Has anyone heard of MTH doing the same set???
