I learned today that another of our 3 rail family, Bruce J. Van Huis earned his Master Model Railroader becoming #746.

I am thrilled that another 3 railer earned that distinction; demonstrating that there are some outstanding modelers in 3-rail O scale!

I have written on here before encouraging others to go for their MMR, thereby promoting our great scale!

I wonder if Bruce J. Van Huis is on here?  He has been a 3-rail modeler forever.  He started 3 rail O and never changed.

CONGRATULATIONS BRUCE!!!  I hope that you read this.

If you don't meet all of the criteria Pat.

I'd like to see you grandfathered in, based on your driveline work alone.😉

There are lots of folks out there who have done most or all of the requirements - the big nut to crack seems to be recordkeeping and documentation.

If it gets us use of the private jet, then I’m in,…otherwise, I’ll be ok,..😉

thank you for your comments Rick!!

Sadly, there's no plane.  But there is a club Big Boy.

One benefit of the MMR program is public recognition for a job well done, which is important for some folks.  IMO, the bigger benefit is that it requires aspiring MMRs to get out into the model railroading community and become involved with helping others.

The Achievement Program (MMR) is an Educational Program.  There are many benefits including learning new skills and techniques.

The Program is not about superiority or bragging rights.  It is about helping others, learning new things, and sharing and promoting the hobby with others.

A requirement to those involved in the program is to help, guide and assist others.

When I look through the names of those who had the talent and grit to pursue NMRA's MMR designation, I recognize many from whom I learned to navigate the hobby of model railroading. I think it would be fun also to recognize some of the skills essential to enjoying older three-rail trains. You deserve recognition if you have acheived any of the following:

1. Restore a basket-case pre- or postwar locomotive to original appearance and operating status (two categories: repaint and original paint).

2. Salvage trashed rolling stock (two categories: preserving original paint/lettering and repainting for an entirely new railroad).

3. Build a table layout using an original Lionel or Marx trackplan and using original track and transformer.

4. Populate a layout with only era-appropriate structures (two categories: operating and non-operating).

5. Put together a trainset for your grandkids using only rolling stock and accessories older than their parents.

And so forth. Meanwhile, congratulations to you three-railers who have achieved NMRA's rigorous program!

Bob M.
