We're seeing the automotive world move from selling cars to selling computers on wheels. Tesla appears to be a tech companies whose tech fits in and runs cars, for example.
Got to wondering if there's another opportunity for a tech company to make technology for toy trains. I'm pretty familiar with the old Train America Studios....met them all since they're an hour from my house and even had them do a few upgrades. I wonder if they were a company before the time was ready (I'm sure other, especially they, would know better than me).
I'm not a scale operator so, frankly, I don't new engines based on the cool features or being closer models to the real ones. I'd be happy to run my grandfather's old UP FA2s with PS2, PS3, TMCC, LC+, LC+2, or Legacy. Granted, we'll need spare hardware parts, but it seems like the tech products (boards, wiring harnesses) are the most delicate. I'd be happy to, for example, someday upgrade my LC+ Mikado or PS2 0-6-0 to something like PS4 or Legacy 3....new hardware and software inside existing platform and chasis for a couple hundred bucks, no problem.
If ERR was able to be retained by 3rd Rail, maybe there's a chance for the tech portion to carry on and thrive. Fingers crossed.
