Got this at the recent model train show. 1941 Plymouth pickup. I don't need it but the price was right. I like cycling civilian vehicles through the layout every now and then.
I'll need to dull the finish down and give it some weathering and a 1943 Tennesssee license plate...

Bought some "raw materials" for a future paint project: decals for UP streamliner passenger cars and a pair of diesel locomotives.

Thanks, Mark!
I wish it should have been just a little bit older, though, as a 1941 civilian vehicles would have been really rare in that part of Tennessee in 1943. This will get a TN plate, some dullcoat and some very light washes of grime from underneath as it wouldn't be too badly beat up after 2 years (especially since it'd be a company vehicle as no farmer could have afforded this). Heck, maybe I'll make decals for a fictional business for the doors!
Mike, this was really the only thing I bought at the show. I found a stack of "Great Model Railroad" annuals I didn't have, but over at the shop on South Tacoma Way after the show. I thought about some On30 AMS boxcars but like I told you that day, shows can get depressing for me as I just don't need anything now.
Lee, Yes I agree with your scenario that a '41 would be kind of new for a farmer in '43. Yes a business could have bought a '41. Great thinking. Maybe I like it because it reminds me of a '48 Dodge Powerwagon a high school friend on the farm across the road had when we were in our early 20s. Anyway, I know you will make it look good.

I really wanted to hold Bob (@RSJB18) and Brian (@briansilvermustang) responsible for this purchase, but the reality is I picked up this pair of D&H U33c’s from Grzyboski’s yesterday... gotta’ stop going there… NOT!!! Haven’t had too much time to test them out yet, but they are really good lookers and run nicely as a “lashup” as Lionel calls it.
Love the D&H.

The decals for a UP "City of Los Angeles" train arrived today. These will be used for the locomotives:

I just bought another MTH Greyhound bus, this time from a good Forum member. The last one had Greensburg on the destination board, with Brady's Trains banner on the rear. I bought it at Brady's in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. This one has Wheeling on the destination. An excellent choice to show some competition on the Western Maryland Railway in West Virginia layout. These need a driver and a very few passengers when I put many more passengers in my passenger cars.

Mark,
The next time I’m back in Greesburg I’ll have to stop into Brady’s and get the Greensburg bus. It will look good next to my Steeler bus. Come to think of it I bought my Steeler bus there too several Christmas ago.
Dave, I do recall seeing Steelers buses on the shelf when I bought the Greyhound. Sometimes they take some buses to the Monroeville Greenberg show.
Mark Boyce posted:Dave, I do recall seeing Steelers buses on the shelf when I bought the Greyhound. Sometimes they take some buses to the Monroeville Greenberg show.
Mark, Unfortunately I haven’t been to. Monroeville show due to the fact I’m living in NC. The timing just hasn’t been right when I’m in town visiting family. I was in Greensburg at Christmas but couldn’t find the time to stop in Brady’s. My next visit will be in March so I definitely will take the time to stop and pick up a bus.
I purchased these reference materials from the Great Northern Railway Historical Society for my GN Empire Builder paint project. For a novice like myself, they are a terrific resource and very cheap for the information they provide.
"The GN EB Part 4: 1955-1959" is 12 pages of detailed information on the acquisition of the modern, streamlined cars, EB consists by year and season, motive power, the Great Domes that inaugurated this period, and much more; plus period photographs of the train.
The "Decals" monograph includes detailed drawings of decal placement and content, as well as detailed car numbers, names, etc.
As I said above, for a novice like myself, this information is invaluable and cheap for the quality and quantity of information provided-- ~$12.00.

"K-Line"? Really?

Mark, later in K-Line made some fantastic engines and even had TMCC in them. Keep them in mind!
K-line item costs were cheaper in comparison maybe. They were changing the game doing it too.
I've never actually seen any that I raised an imediate eyebrow of contempt to. Most seemed very nice, the prices to boot often made them a no-brainer for folks too.
I've ran others, but only own one myself. But it also stayed while the Lionel mpc GG-1 was sold because it didn't look as good, didn't track as good, & didn't run nearly as smooth as the kline. (open frame gg-1s jackrabbit start almost as bad as the prototypes, making them a little quirky to throttle up slowly)
I have other can motor engines along with PW approximate equals, all the other can motors would get sold first if I decided to downsize.
I.e. the K-line was impressive. I wasn't expecting that, I bought it for the Broadway Lmtd. cars, which were the only the plastic semi-scale ones... that also impressed me beyond my expectations. (there are also aluminum versions in 1:48) (my only issue was some car lights wiring rotted inside the insulation.. bad wire supplier there, but a cheap n easy fix anyhow.)
speaking of K-line.....
Couldn't find any real WM loco's with this paint scheme but I like these MP-15's. The caboose has never been opened. The original tape is still sealed. Came with the old K-line horn/ bell control too.
Also received a load of tubular track and some 072 switches from the local D&H enabler Paul @Apples55.
Thank you again Sir!
These are very nice too.

Picked up a real piece of junk K4. It is more or less ( a lot less) Scale Craft, such as frame drivers, cylinders siderods etc. At least part of the boiler is also SC, but when they cobbled the front half they did not taper and chose to butch the steamchest pipes instead. Surprisingly, it does have the SC casting used at the joint where the belpair starts though. Tender is just cobbled. I like it though...

Went to a local, small train show yesterday and the only thing I saw that I REALLY wanted was a Lionel 763 but $900 was beyond my budget. Finally picked up a nice 675 at a decent price. Also the seller is going to fix two Standard motors for me. Later we went to some antique shops in New Oxford, saw some trains but didn't buy anything. There was an Ives Standard gauge set in nice shape with some nice light poles and fencing but too much $$. Saw a set with a very nice 726 & 3 Madison heavyweights, all with 2625 numbers and a nice 681 Turbine.

Adriatic posted:What is the tall piece centered at the rear, just to the right of the derrick?
I believe it's a destination board, with signs you can raise and lower to tell where you're train is heading. Almost exclusivly german, and I'm ecstatic I got one for such a cheap price.
I believe it is supposed to be mounted on the base centered at the front of the image.
The fence-like object I believe might be a crossing, the crank on the right end of it showing that it was able to be raised and lowered manually, unlike American ones (Notably Marx) that were raised by the weight of a train pushing on a tab under the tracks.
The house with the bell to the right of the Destination board might go with the track at the bottom, and is activated by a tab next to the rail that is pushed down when the trains flanges push it
The strange object to the left of the destination board might be a gas-powered street lantern, missing the lantern part of it. Which would be amazing if that were the case, which I believe it might be.
And the little house in the right corner is just that, a small signal is supposed to go in the hole on the corner of the base.
This will go well with my Bing GNR Locomotive and coach
Cool. I think Ive seen the destination board frame (or similar) used to make up a tell tale. A dest. board hadn't come to mind.
A lamp would be cooler than a load derrick. I was just looking at acetylene lamps. I never thought about the gas source because of bottled gasses being so common today. The acetylene gas generator is an ingenious little device...drip water on carbide 😏 slick. I would have expected a parrafin, candle, or oil burner though.
Offseason for most, but it's the only theme we have going on our railroad, so here is the latest engine - Lionel 6-11381- Christmas Conventional Scale 0-4-0 Steam Switcher #12. Auction item from Trainz on Sunday and got it today. Clean, runs as it should, smokes, and good sound.
I prefer to run DCS and Legacy, but I did pick up a Legacy Powermaster to attach to 1 loop so I could run a few conventional items I still have like the Polar Express and Christmas Docksider, and now this switcher. Looks good out in front of a few pieces of scale North Pole Central rolling stock.

Anyways it's a MTH Premier Santa Fe 2-10-4 Texas with PS2 3V. I got it pretty much brand new for a little less than half of the MSRP from 14 years ago. Runs great on 072 and 054 curves. It's pretty massive and awesome all at the same time.

Backstory: I made what I thought was a low ball bid on this (and several other items) which ended up "winning." Super nice set, just not something I want to keep--though it's so nice I'm seriously tempted. Provided some entertainment interest in the auction.

Thanks. Plus it's nice to know how much stuff I have simply by looking at my layout. I have 9 locomotives. That's plenty.
I like having enough to enjoy in my spare time. I have an old Ford Thunderbird. I wanted to get another one but realized early on I could have one nice car or two that were ok but never finished. I applied the same philosophy to trains. I can have a few nice pieces or a bunch of stuff that's just ok. The old adage of quality over quantity.
I think so ..just weasled out of having to cut and splice a couple of shorty RDC,s into a scale length RDC-3 (postal-baggage-combine), a one car train, long desired, by finding a MAC Shops highly elusive kit for an RDC-3 which l will mount on a lengthened shorty chassis. Of course, this is out of my modeled era, as a modern "gas electric".
At the Greenberg show in NJ on February 9th, I bought a LionMaster Western Pacific 4-6-6-4 Challenger #402. I had them ship it to me from Albany, because as usual I didn't have a car—I got there using the bus from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC.

Lou, I wouldn't know about how well they "work". Never gave a thought to putting a 50 yr old collector quality sub in the water. HEy all! Been awhile- hence the long post. Slipped on black ice at work and had a head injury so it’s been a recovery. I have picked up some nice pieces in the meantime and was able to make it to the Allentown Spring thaw with my dad that last weekend, my first time I could go anywhere with that amount of people, lights, etc...anyway here’s what I’ve ontained in the meantime from the show, friends, and relatives. Post is long but just happy to be back in the board!
The RMT AEC I got somewhere else but I really like AEC pieces. The UN hummer is 1:43 scale, my layout has a humanitarian crises at the moment so it works well. The other figure I’ve shiwn before(k-line SWAT). The guy on the scooter i thought was cool and I liked the metal figure as well(make unknown- says stuff in the bottom and then Africa). Below that is my UN convoy in action with a Corgi 1:50 scale I got from my grandfather back when I was maybe 9 or 10. He might’ve passed 2 years ago but he keeps on giving and I feel I inherited a lot of skills and inspiration for my layout from him!
I losted this on the tinplage forum. Love me some toy soldiers, especially 19th century British soldiers. The Flyer observation car and caboose I got at spring thaw. Obs car 1207 goes with the 1205(also from my grandfather). Flyer caboose was very cheap so got that as well
Picked up these 3 cars for a good deal. Two are 1690 ‘Ives R.R.” Lines, the 1691 in Lionel Lines but they all match and I can change the coupler of the front car as needed to fit with my Ives 3250 electric.
Got mydad’s lionel type v transformer restored. Currently not using it on my layout but it will play a roleonce I expand.
BElow is my father’s gang car, fixed it up myself and works great. Can’t wait to find use for it on my expansion.
Obtained these MTH Amtrak Railking coaches from a dear friend. They go very well with the AEM-7 I run on my mainline.
Finally, I got 2 I’d these “hedges” from my other grandfather who passed when I was about 2 years older. I saw them in Tom Snyder’s Lionel layout video and was wondering what they were used for? The picture below this one is for reference from said video.
sorry for the long post, thought it was cool enough to share and was really just excited to be back on the board! Hope all has been well.

just as soon as I build it
They are all excellent, Bob! I like the RS3 especially!
I used to go to SeaWorld San Antonio a lot as a child (despite San Antonio having no relation or connection to the Ocean), and when I saw this car I was instantly reminded of all the cherished memories of visiting the park.
This is the Lionel #26853 Sea World Aquarium Car, one of the more creatively unique licensed freight cars I think Lionel has made even though its around a decade and 3 years old.
Just arrived after a 3-day wait.
Thanks Mark- I've been on the fence about a RS-3 for a while because its designed for 031 minimum. Your old GP-7 makes it around OK so I don't see why the RS-3 wouldn't. Besides- I like RS-3's
Bob
Bob, I think it should be fine. It's 2 axle. I like RS3s too! Oh I said that earlier!
I really like RS3s-a little large for my layout but maybe someday ?

Well, Bob, it is painfully obvious that you have reached critical mass on your current layout and you must implement congestion pricing to raise the funds needed for infrastructure improvements
Looks good... congested, but good!!!

Oh yes, I subscribed to your YouTube page!
Thanks for subscribing!

I had not seen this. I loved Sea World too. Maybe more than Cedar Point. I got to feed meat to the gators and had hands on interaction with dolphin and orca a decade before I saw one in the Everglades or glimpsed the ocean's shore.
I got picked out from the crowd to take part in the Ohio shows a few times. I even knew to duck under splashes but not close to the tank, and avoid spit fountains (I was too distracted by the animals to have stage fright) They are warm and rubbery like a wet suit of leather. I thought the dolphin more scarry because of how fast they move. Like an big anxious dog's long snappy snout... don't forget about all those teeth right there kissing you
I always get picked at animal events. And always turned down Jungle Larry's and others . Oh, except the boas, I liked snakes (good eatin' too). As a kid, a relative was a Bozo stand in with ties as old as vaudville... I came to realise a while back I saw lot of back stages and met a lot of names at different times of my life.)

Looks like you are in business, Paul!

Anyways it's a MTH Premier Santa Fe 2-10-4 Texas with PS2 3V. I got it pretty much brand new for a little less than half of the MSRP from 14 years ago. Runs great on 072 and 054 curves. It's pretty massive and awesome all at the same time.
Very nice Lou! Love the sound
Lou, nice looking engine. Don't worry about running out of room. I ran out of room more then 35 years ago.....Paul

scored these yesterday
The RS-3 is a MTH Rail-King, box car is Lionel.
I also bought these two cars, and a WM TOFC with trailer, recently from forum member @cpowell. Not shown is a LIRR water tanker.
Very nice Bob great score

Got myself a ZW yesterday. I've been using my grandfather's RW since 2012 and about a year ago I picked up a backup. Should have plenty of power now!!!

Nice, Logan, but one minor correction - having to build more shelves is not a “problem”... it is an opportunity to expand your empire!!!

I was going to say that but I still would like to post on this thread maybe he’ll put a little happy tree somewhere
I bought a grey 225E the other week. Now I'm working on maybe getting a 226E! I've always wanted the grandfather of the Lionel berkshire.
I Know , I'm a postwar guy but this Lionel Western Maryland Alco Pa that I just purchased is going to look so good on my Maryland Eastern Shore Depot layout when I finish . I'm at the shelf building stage, even this is fun !

Got a NYC Sunset/3rd Rail Mercury. Set it up and at first it did not run but I had lights, then I unplugged the tether and plugged it in again and it ran perfectly, now I am back to square one. Tried messing with the tether no help, lights nothing else. I know it works I just have to do some investigative work. I have it set up on a carpet layout with FT. I know some of the problem is the FT, but not all. But its a beauty and heavy as heck!

Matt,
I just got the book today. I have not had time to take more than a cursory look. It appears to be more history than mathematically technical.

Very nice!
I purchased the MTH plated Santa Fe cars for Christmas and they arrived today from @MrMuffin'sTrains. I got the 4 car set plus two more. I have yet to unpack them but will tomorrow. I am looking forward to running them with either the plated Atlas F units or the recent Lionel F units. Should make for a fun weekend. Yes, pictures and videos to follow.
John
ConrailFan, The NYC Mercury is a very handsome locomotive! I hope you get it running perfectly soon!
Lee, The Cadillac and Packard will look great!
Thanks Mark! So do I!

Logan, Those are some of the best buys you could make!!
The Great Train Show is in town this weekend, and I went yesterday. It was kinda smaller then I expected. But there were some neat things to see and have. I came home with a nice deal.
It's the MTH PS-1 version. Runs great, and it is huge!! Had to take a photo of it with my brother's N scale version when we got back to his house. It will get upgraded to DCC at some point, but since it has a BCR in it I'll run it as is for now.

Pete, I see your little people will be safe with police and fire protection! Very impressive lights!

sigh After following every false lead I could find, I had to accept the official statements from both Disney and Hot Wheels that this magnificent vehicle is not based on a real car.
It's the car driven by Cruella De Vil in "101 Dalmatians."

It's 25.5 inches knuckle to knuckle, and just shy of 8.5 pounds.

Paul, that post is an inspiration to all of us.
Head’s up: Many dealers are clearing out LC+ engines, both steam and diesel right now. Some excellent deals to be had. I bit on three: Santa Fe RS-3, Western Pacific GP-9 and Great Northern Hudson.
Csome of the Forum Advertisers to see what they are offering.
I do hope that this doesn’t mean that LC+ isn’t selling well, though, because it is my go-to product line and I sure hope Lionel continues it.
