At the York Show last week I purchased the MTH York Club Cars ans I picked up the MTH Rail King Erie Lackawana and Richmond and Fredericksburg 4Bay Cylindricle Hopper Cars from Just Trains which I had preordered awhile back. Very sharp cars.
I ordered a Thomas, West Virginia station kit from Carolina Craftsman Kits at an introductory discount. Here it is sitting about where the station will go on my Blackwater Canyon Line layout. Unfortunately I won't get a chance to build it until next winter.
Vincent, What is your question? I would be happy to post more.

No, my question is why do you have to wait until next winter to assemble it?

Too many things to do not related to model trains. I know; it is quite unacceptable for sure!!

Thank you, Bob! I hope so too!
Mark, just take your time and do it when you want! Its your layout and its your building! You have skills though, I would have started on it already and it might still take me till next winter! LOL
Mike, Well I butchered my first laser cut kit by putting paint on too thick and lost a lot of the fine brick detail. Fortunately it was a small kit and can go in the back of the layout. I did a better job painting clapboard laser cut kit, but it still sits in pieces after I started the layout build in the larger room. We both need to retire and spend more time on out layouts!
That's ok Mark, I am sure we all have blew some money out the window butchering kits when we first got them! It's just part of the hobby and learning curve!
Here it is, my first Lionel Legacy steam engine. And most likely the only one. I got this for a great deal from Mario's Trains during his York sale. So far I'm loving it and it's running great. I was surprised just from how well the engine was packed in the box, it barely moves when it's in the box. Hopefully it doesn't have any problems during my ownership, thankfully it has a warranty.
In the future I plan on buying Reading 70' Madison passenger cars from MTH, so I can make a pretty accurate recreation of the excursion train that the T1s pulled from 1959 - 1964. But of course, that will come at a later date.
Here's a running video as well:
Picked up a pair of Rio Grande 65’ mill gons and a NYC covered hopper for a total of around $35. The gons were lightly used, but they are still like new. Also picked up an Athearn BlueBox SD45 as a project. The shell was painted, crudely, by its previous owner and will need stripping. It will probably end up in Conrail or Erie Lackawanna. The chassis itself was very well maintained, however. It is currently in the process of being converted to DCC. It will eventually get ESU Loksound or TCS WOW sound, but for now a Digitrax DH126 will do.
I'm happy for you, Michael B. I hope the engine gives you nothing but satisfaction and joy, always being dependable, sturdy, and strong.
FrankM
Thanks Ted!
Oh, Brian!!! I finally bought an MTH BL2 in the Rock Island black and red livery with silver painted trucks. I just paid for it on the bay a few minutes ago. I have always liked the looks of the BL2 and happy to finally get one. Only other engine I would really like to have is an MTH BNSF Genset, but I wouldn’t mind having an MTH BN GP38-2 1990 BN Safe and an MTH NP GP9. So I guess I am down to 3 engines on the “Have To Have” list.

$99 for an MTH early Premier K4s 20-3018-1.. Maybe crazy but I can't resist K-4's!
He says it dings and then turns off. Probably needs a battery if I had to guess. It is a bit dusty an such...
Dennis, in 1987 that magnificent K-4 Pacific was declared the official steam locomotive of the State of Pennsylvania. From 1914 to 1957, it was the PRR's premier passenger-hauling loco, finally being replaced by diesels.
It's been a bit, had a break last week, but now I'm ready to post what I hauled in over the last 10 or so days. Many hours spent in hobby shops and antique shops or malls last week!:
I believe I took this picture this past Saturday, here we have:
1st row, left to right, seller in parentheses : Lionel Road Construction Signs(Henning's, "Young Adults" pack(Hobby Lobby), "British Regiment"(Local Antique Mall), Plasticville Figures & Signs-not all signs came in the bag, some from previous purchase(Henning's), 2 die cast figures and 1 sign(Henning's), KBN AKA Karl Bub City Desitnation Sign(Henning's),Bing Shield with bell(Henning's), Ives 551 Chair Car(ebay), Pre-war tab slot couplers(Henning's)
2nd Row, left to Right: Lionel MPC era Mobil Tank Car(Henning's), Lionel Pre-war 1680 Sunoco Tanker with new trucks(Local Antique Mall), Repainted Lionel Prewar 657 caboose(Local Antique Mall), Woodland Scenics Policemen(Henning's)
Last Row, left to Right: Model Power "Deacon & His Flock "(Trains & Lanes), MTH Railking 2003 LV Boxcar(ebay), Lionel LV gondola(Henning's), mth pREMIER 2012 CSX bay Window Caboose(Henning's)
Lionel Postwar #35 Lamp- got it from a "junk bin", doesn't have a top-yet- for now it has a red light bulb for my military area
Close Up Lionel Signs, Young Adults from Hobby Lobby, Mobil Tanker
Close up: MTH CSX Caboose
Close up: Plasticville figures & signs from Henning's bag
Close Up: British Regiment- somewhat more s-scale but they serve the purpose. They also don't look like the traditional British regiment. THey had been glued to a good base and I pried them off with an exacto knife
Close up: Henning's had a deal on diecast figures in their display case. Picked up these 3 items. One is obviously a station figure, the other seems to be a young boy with a camera, and the sign behind it just seemed cool.
And here are some more :
Picked these up on Sunday:
Front Row: Marx single reduction motor(hoping to use it to convert my SP 6000 to being a powered unit), unpainted s-scale figures, Welly die-cast cars(from Rite Aid, $4.00 with rewards card- 1:39 scale):2017 Escalade, 2007 Tahoe, 2013 C63 AMG Mercedes-Benz
Middle Row: Postwar Flyer S-scale Insulated Rio-Grande Boxcar, Marx Canadian Pacific Caboose, Lionel #71 Street Lamp
Back Row: Athearn Kit Rock Island Box Car, my 2nd AMT 3160 Santa Fe Coach- lights work much better, nice blue tinted windows as intended, both sides are in AT LEAST good shape but one side is a little faded, General Model Corps Tunnel
From Pop's attic: to the far left( not entirely visible) yellow Matchbox "Models of Yesteryear" Blue Circle Portland Cement, 2 metal masters busses(can you spot the difference?) and a red Hubley Kiddie toy car with the paper underbody still intact
Welly diecast Tahoe transporting CIA black Ops and Director to Meet with 2 MTH army figures, Army Car made by Solido at 1:43 scale
Army without the CIA, behind them is a Mathbox Mercedes-Benz Models of yesteryear- broken down so Hubby is going to the back to try and push
Switched around my farm so that there's an easement allowing people to access the apartment and deliver product to the supermarket(plasticville- off-screen on the left) as well as the Metal Toy Mfg Co "Dude Bar Ranch" from my grammy, the grass mat is from hobby lobby
Prewar Flyer 1123 Passenger Car- very versatile, goes great with my current prewar consist of Ives, Flyer, and Bing. Also fits in well with Marx and prewar Lionel with the Latch/tab & slot couplers
My first 2 rail, 3/16th scale American Flyer set from Henning's.. In original box with original boxes. The transformer, directions, Atlantic 303 Loco, Reading Lines American Flyer Lines tender, Illinois Central Reefer, Gulf 925 and correct caboose are all there. Missing the Texas and Pacific Gondola but the box is there- hoping to get that this weekend
Just set it up as a carpet layout for now. What the future holds for this set- I do not know. But I must say I like the s-scale. Picked up theswitch at a local antique mall

This isn't actually my first engine, this is my 4th command engine in my collection and my 2nd Legacy engine. This for sure won't be the last model I will ever own, but it might be the only steam engine I will ever own. Simply because it's the only engine that is great looking and not super popular. Everything else I can live with out, even the articulated steam engines. Since on O-72 curves they mostly look really ugly and that would bother me any time I would run an engine like that.
I think so...
...a new tender body for my E-6 #6-28005. Got it through eBay from an outfit in North Lima, Ohio.
The body on top is the original: part#6SP8005T07. Below is the new one, part #6928704T07. As I hope you can see, the details are a little finer and the coal load is much improved. Both are marked "Korea" inside.
It is a drop in replacement; all the mounting screws line up perfectly. The only "issue" is this newer version does not have the clear light bar for the marker lamps, nor does it appear to be set up to accept one. Not a big deal. A nice upgrade (I think) and free shipping too!

Dennis Holler posted:Mark is that for the consolidation you got a while back? Looks good to me!
As it turns out, yes.
I originally was going to use it for the E-6, but this newer body does not have an opening in the front for the tether cable to pass through. Since I gutted the consolidation and am running it on straight DC, and therefore am not using all the "bells and whistles" buried in the tender, that tether is not needed, and is tucked up inside the tender.
So yes, it now resides behind the 2-8-0...thanks for asking.

PS: great score on that MTH K4...100 bucks? Unbelievable!

Yeah, I thought about it for a few minutes once I found it and then just said, heck with it, I'll give it a shot.... Now up to 4 Williams K4s', a couple of MTH, a half dozen Lionel including the old ones and the Scalecraft from the 1930's.... Some of em even work! lol I also have a gutted Lionel H10 consolidation. I either need to try an ERR board or do like you did and just straight DC it.
Just received from Mr. Muffin. This is the only car I am interested out the 5-car set (20-40039) heavyweight UP passenger cars. This car finish (end) a project. Will soon post the others for sale.
A very quick shot.
Can anyone guess the project?

For what it's worth...
The Consol runs great on straight DC: no complaints, although sometimes I wish I had been able to keep it an AC engine, just so I don't have to switch power sources every time I change from it to a "pure" Lionel locomotive. In any case, it's all good.
If you ever feel like one of your (many) K4s needs a home on the Oregon Coast, please keep me in mind...

Just picked up an MTH premier PRR Alco PA ABBA (A units #5753 [lead] and #5756; B units #5752 and #57550 [add on]) set that looks great except for the roof antenna needs work. Came without boxes so that would explain that.
One of the B (#5750) units I believe is MTH 20-2477-3 (2006). As for the ABA unit I'm struggling somewhat on how to ID it. Hopefully someone can provide some insight. On the bottom is a sticker that says PS2 passenger, smoke pot, volume pot and a white rectangular battery charging port. The coloring is green so I'm thinking it is the 20-2477-1 set from 2004 but the A unit road numbers, #5753 and #5756, don't match the MTH description (should be #5754 and #5755). The numbers on my A units are for a Tuscan colored PS3 set from 2013. Could they really have different numbers?
Also, I don't see a program switch anywhere. Is there not one for PS2? I have only run conventionally until I get my layout (first layout for newbie) up and running so haven't added my TIU as yet. Before I even put it on my conventional track to see if they light up I do want to change out the batteries (2.4V I believe). Will have to look under the hood later to see what's there as well.

About 8 years ago I bought an ABA set of Williams Santa Fe Alco PAs. They were meant to be a sub in for the set of PAs I wanted as a kid in the late 90's: the Lionel PA, PB set from 97-98. I even upgraded the Williams units with ERR Cruise Commander and Railsounds Commander but they still weren't what I really wanted. I just recently sold the Williams units to acquire a MIB PA, PB set I originally wanted. So now I've got the last of the childhood locomotives I wanted. They run great and sound great as well. The horn is probably one of the best sounding horns Lionel has put into a diesel. Eventually I'll pick up another PA to make an ABA set.

My 1995 MTH 20-3018 K4s showed up. The seller stated that it did not run. But it seems to run fine. This is the second early MTH loco I bought where seller said no workie but it workie. 👍👍👍smoke works too , it got softened up after this video.

I needed to kill an hour waiting on a prescription refill so I went to a near by flea market. Score one for the home team - I found a very clean Lionel VW transformer with box and instructions for $40.00. Yes, it woks great. Now I want a whistle tender.
Picked up a couple more BEEPs. They are neat little engines. Need to find some rolling stock now.

My recent eBay purchases arrived this last week or so. Cool item #1 is a Norscot Caterpillar slide shift backhoe. It came with extra attachments. I thought it would look better on the MOW train gondola with ties.
Cool item #2 is an MTH EMD BL2 in the Rock Island livery which I figured could go with the Iowa Interstate engines the I have. I have always liked the BL2. The PS3 sounds are good, love the horn.
Cool item #3 is an MTH Santa Fe crane to go with in my BNSF work train.

Remove 4 screws on top & check rollers do roll, look at windings where rollers ride for any nasty wear/sawing, and check the breaker cuts out properly by shorting with a heavy metal connection (trans. on a power strip with off/on & breaker just in case... bigger transformers can weld metal to terminals a little with a direct short )
$40 is a great deal. "A KWs power in the ZW package."

Several years ago, I purchased an Alco GE Ingersoll-Rand Box Cab diesel (Oil-electric as they called them). I always wanted another one with the plan of painting it to updated CNW or Ingersoll-Rand. I don't have data as to whether there was a demonstrator in that paint or if it was commemorative (it's in a museum/I don't know if it runs). Anyway, fast forward to last year's catalog and they offered them again, so rather than acquire/repaint I bought new ones to add to the collection.

Then got these K-Line Alco AA units off ebay that came today. The hook together by a tether as well as dummy couplers. If my research is correct they’re from 2005

It's "Smee," Captain Hook's assistant. He is covering an ear with one hand while firing a pistol with the other.
Mr. Smee. When I worked as a telecom engineer, they had a thing called SME (subject matter expert). I referred to them as Mr. Smee. No one ever gave me the satisfaction of understanding my poor joke. I wasn’t a SME. Maybe that is why they pushed me out with an early retirement.
Burlington Northern PS-1 with freightsounds boxcar off ebay. Have one other of these (PRR) and did pre-order the Polar Express version coming out later this year. I really like what these add to our layout while the trains are running. I also like the PS-1 boxcar and find myself slowly moving toward more scale items. Somewhat limited by a lot of O-36 curves on our layout, but even there we're in the process of a redesign to allow some runs with wider curves using O-60 and O-72.

Just picked up some great deals I believe.
The first one is this PRR 2-8-0 Consolidation PS2/3V. I believe this is part of a RTR set but I have no box. There is no smoke switch on the bottom of the tender to turn on/off the smoke but there is a smoke pot as well as what I believe is volume. How do you turn off the smoke units on these? There is also a rectangular battery charging jack so it's definitely PS2... right?
It's not all that fancy but for a 6 year old's first foray into trains/command control and for $55 you can't loose out.
Second was a K-Line 15" passenger set (4680?) with interiors and people in the Fleet of Modernism scheme. Pulled by my Century Club Brunswick GG1 and this'll make a great looking consist no doubt. So what's the order behind the engine? I can do this - baggage, sleeper, coach and observation at the end.
Great condition but some of the pickup springs have become detached or need to be tweaked.
Other things include a PW 2065 Hudson in very good shape and a K-Line Quint's Traveling Aquarium with real water and floating clown fish... very quaint.
Kirk, assuming that your magnificent PRR Consolidation runs, you got a bargain for $55.
I took out the 2.4 V battery and it looks okay inside... no smell of charred plastic. Without the battery this'll run conventional now at least won't it?
Looks great, Kirk!! Great deal!!
Picked up another MIB Lionel 6-18952 Santa Fe Alco PA to go with the other PA and PB I just recently bought. So now I've got a proper ABA set. The PAs will be pulling The Chief on my layout but here the full ABA set is on a test run heading the Fast Mail Express.
Got this in the mail today. It is missing a headlight lens, but I am thinking it was never installed. Despite the missing lens, which I'm sure can be replaced, it is a great engine.
First off I'm a 3 rail O gauge person, but back in the 70's while in the navy I bought a 2 rail Italian made set by Lima. Sold it but always wish I didn't. So I was able to find a similar engine but my set only had 2 red passenger cars, So I found this set on that auction site and couldn't resist lol. The set is on a 9' shelf and it's taking about 8' of it. the cars are 19 1/2" long each, not counting the couplers, the engine is about 15".
The set is DC only but I was able to buy a large set of track also
38 pieces of 12" straight track, ( two are terminal tracks ) one left and one right switch, twenty 24" radius curve track, and then I bought another set of switches from another person ( I'm using Atlas 2 rail O scale track. )
Bill, I am not a fan of passenger cars, but that Touropa car is a beauty.
Here's my latest purchase and my last for a long while. This was a display unit at Nicholas Smith Trains and I got a great deal on it. It only came with one problem part, the metal part for one of the left hatches came off. I fixed that very quickly. The right sliding windows came loose during shipping, also was able to fix that very quickly. I know that the rear part of the roof isn't latching properly, I will fix that in the future.
Engine runs great so far and everything works so far! I will do a proper stress test on Sunday at my local club. But so far I'm loving every bit of this model!

Cool beans; I picked up one of those last year. In spite of the fact that it is admittedly a fairly "cheap" model, mine runs pretty well and even has directional lighting; something that my Rivarossi engines (which actually run a little better) of similar outline and vintage don't have...

The Touropa car came in with a broke coupler, the guy told me to send it back and he will replace the whole truck, as he has a few.
I plan on using this on the upper level of my layout. I plan to have like a mountain area in the far corner, I will use my buildings by model power that Menards tricked me into. But at least I have found a very nice place for them. Don't get me wrong, there nice buildings just a lot smaller than what Menards puts out normally.
i have a pretty tough grading system and since most of my collection is in the 70 -100+ year old range, i do not believe i've ever put a model from that period in a category higher than C7+ which i consider the highest rating i can give a piece that has been carefully played with.... until now.
this set is a stunner. if i didn't know anything about Hafner, i believe i would think this is a new reproduction. i would not hesitate to rate this train a C8 - C8+ ... truly "Like New".

The set is on a 9' shelf and it's taking about 8' of it. the cars are 19 1/2" long each, not counting the couplers, the engine is about 15".
Cool beans; I picked up one of those last year. In spite of the fact that it is admittedly a fairly "cheap" model, mine runs pretty well and even has directional lighting; something that my Rivarossi engines (which actually run a little better) of similar outline and vintage don't have...
...and yes, those passenger cars (I have only 2) are huge!
...nice to see some European stuff make an appearance...

As a antidote to all this, the guy I bought them from lives in Lima, OH. LOL.

Naturally...
This is a Rivarossi model of the Italian "E444"; I suppose it could be considered their version of the GG1...

Well I got directions for Switches in 2 rail O by Atlas. I figured they would work off of Track power. Silly me for thinking such, they run off of AC Not DC. So this is going to be a learning curve for me.
I ran across this thing at a Thrift Store for $3 and remembered one like it from my Dentist Office. We've all seen them in action when the Dentist mixes the amalgam to fill the hole in your tooth. I thought for years I could use that for mixing paint in the small bottles model paint comes in so I snatched the thing right off the shelf. And boy does it work great. I took a bottle of paint that has been sitting in a drawer for three years, the resin was on top and all the pigment was in the lower quarter inch of the bottle. The "Wig-L-Bug" has a 0~60 second timer and I had to run it twice to get all the pigment off the bottom. I would have been shaking it by hand all night or using a toothpick to mix it this well. The holder was not designed to mount paint bottles so I wrapped the bottle in a turn of shipping foam that did the job well enough on the small one once Testers bottle. I will build some sort of fixture to hold other bottles with less trouble. Will also remove the top since it won't close with the bottle in place. But this thing is great should you run into a deal on one. I searched "Wig-L-Bug" on eBay and a bunch came up. I also searched Amalgam Mixer and a bunch of new ones came up a LOT more expensive. j

Bill, I tested DC on a #200 Atlas relay and it worked perfectly even changing polarity. I think it’s the same basic solenoid as the switch just bigger. Give it a try on your track power DC. Of course you need a momentary switch to activate the solenoid. Good luck.

Picked this up for under 20 bucks, which I guess was a good deal:
Now, this is my first Walthers "Built-Up": I noticed that (at least) the base is not glued to the walls, so I was able to add a wood floor. Makes me wonder if the whole thing can be dis-assembled so that a second-story floor can be added. Plus, that would make painting it in a more realistic color a lot easier: does anyone here have experience doing this?

The photo doesn't look too bad to me. I'm assuming MTH based this paint scheme off of the builder's scheme from 4436. Shown below are some photos of 4449 with black walls:
I'm basing mine off of the current excursion appearance. I'll also need to find an auxiliary tender and an Amtrak P42DC in Phase V. Another person did the same thing with his Lionel GS-4 on this thread: https://ogrforum.com/...ionel-legacy-6-83194
I got this a while back at an antique mall about 40 miles north of me:
Interesting to thumb through it and see what scale modeling was like when you had to build almost everything; bronze and brass, and huge K&D field-wound motors... great stuff!

Nice buy. Scale Southern Pacific GS class Northerns are nice locomotives.
I want to start a new thread subject "Done anything stupid lately?".
I was quite pleased with myself about finding three 2-bay offset hoppers in C&O. Only after they all arrived and I unpacked them did I realize that they were all the same road number! Oh well, I've been doing a lot of decal-ing lately anyway. I only have to change the last digit on two of the three cars. Not the end of the world - just a little extra work. Guess I need to pay closer attention.
Ralph, I wouldn't call that "stupid," but I do wonder if that isn't standard operating procedure. When a company manufactures more than one copy of a railcar, DO they give each one a different number?

yes.
Ralph, I agree with Vincent! I have a couple pairs of cars with the same road number, but when the train is moving, I can’t focus on the lettering anyway! LOL. I do agree your renumbering is a great project, and you probably have it down pat! Excellent job!

Mark, my OCD or being too "anal" won't stand for it !
Ralph, I do get it about OCD. I have it too, but I’ve been too busy the last few years, my OCD has gone into remission! Once I’m fully retired and don’t have responsibilities to my elderly relatives, I expect the OCD will rear it’s head again. LOL
Finally got out to Hobby Lobby and got my black foam boards. Good timing too. They were 40% off. Pic.......Paul 2
Paul... that's brilliant and thanks for the heads up. It's been on my list to get some foam board to mock up a raised loop but you made me pull the trigger and get it at 40% off... took their entire stock which wasn't much.
While at that store I, of course, looked around. Outside of drooling over the air brushes (too soon in this hobby to play with that) I found one thing that can be kit bashed in the future to add more action to the layout. Also give my kid something to fiddle with and hopefully not break.
That door looks O-gauge enough to me! Future mountain to city cable car is what I'm envisioning here, if he ever lets me acquisition it. Kit bashing opportunities are endless... and new topic worthy I suspect.

After 5 years of collecting almost exclusively Christmas themed engines and rolling stock, I've started to acquire non-holiday items. Picked up MTH PRR RS-3, several scale PS-1 boxcars of varying RR lines (Burlington Northern, Great Northern, Lackawanna, Chessie, US Army, State of Maine, PRR), Sunoco tank car and the NS Veteran's smoking tank car from MTH. The latter today spurred on by a patriotic flash. Happy Memorial Day.
Congratulations Moon for broadening your horizons! Pun intended! LOL
Hi I just received my long awaited Lionel Lion Scale WM 6 pack hoppers. They are nice but out of the 6, 3 of them have problems. The worst one sounded bad from the start, the metal weights are only glued in place. Well they broke free from the bottom and most of the pieces of that form the hopper are loose and free. And those pieces don't even seem to have any glue marks whatsoever. All of these are made here in the US, and are falling apart. Half tempted to send them back or to put them together. If this is what I am to expect of US made products then just keep it made overseas, sorry but no pride is shown in this workmanship.

That’s a shame. Probably an easy fix BUT you should send them back. We can’t keep fixing their problems. The pictures show much more than a simple piece falling off.
Paul, that is something I would not want to happen to me after waiting so long for those cars. I too have a bunch of the Lionscale cars I have been waiting for. I would either call the dealer you got them through to see if they can help you but also contact Lionel about the problem.....Paul 2
Well that kind a kills the made in America quality.
Please remember that Ross switches made in America are the best you can buy. They operate flawlessly on my layout. And Mianne bechwork also Anerican is top notch. I think.from my experience that your observation is not on made in America, but rather made by Lionel . That said I just got a prewar Lionel that runs like clockwork. So maybe it is Lionel today that is the issue.
Please see attached my Lionel 700 Electric Engine. It is 1915 and I got it recently on Ebay in a box with American Flyer O gauge freight cars. Please expand the picture to see its numbering, etc. I have also attached a video of it running . It is over 100 years old and yet runs like it is brand new. It was very dusty inside, and I did clean out grease and added very fine oil. But its type 1 motor hums. And it has the "L" marked typed 1 pickup assembly on red felt ( I mention for those interested) .

Just got my first "scale" Lionel freight car:
It's #6-27356, and the details are unbelievable; seems everything (except maybe the air hoses) that could possibly been added was done so...and it rolls smooth as silk.
Question: this doesn't have those terrible-looking uncoupler "tack tabs" on the bottom of the trucks: when were they discontinued?
A beautiful model...

Scale is the way to go. The detail you can get currently is simply amazing. My layout is mostly scale ( people and vehicles are a mixed "scale " size. ). But I compared my MTH AEM 7 to a picture I have of the actual, and every hose etc. is there. I love your new box car, it looks terrific. Enjoy !!!!!!

I've been involved in "scale" modeling since the very early '70's; in fact, I had a similarly-decorated car in N scale at one time, so by getting this it seems I've come "full circle". The level of detail on this thing really blew me away; it matches the nice K-Line and Atlas hoppers I've recently acquired. Not your "grandfather's Lionel", that's for sure! I really had no idea...

No-tack couplers have been around off and on in different forms "forever". My old fav are these Lionel for the finger tab (1956 #6414 autoloader here) We called them "plate or tab couplers" because a plate vs tack was used below the axles. Higher drag because of blunt axle vs needle point, fast angle, etc. Low slung, solid looking though; low "ground clearance". My new age favs are these MTH open via very small tab slide behind the brake hose, aritculated shaft, and sprung.
Kline's passenger car I have are nice, but no uncoupling by finger unless they are small fingers with a bit of a nail; a little plate down low is all there is.
Scenic Express had a 15% off sale over the weekend so I decided to stock pile a few things for later. Pic.......Paul 2

And the MTH Railking PPR RS-3 arrived today looking sharp. One of the pickup rollers must be pinched as it doesn't freely turn even after lubrication. I'll have to set up a test track this weekend to give it a run as we took down our layout this month to rebuild again in the fall. In the meantime, I've been adding more scale rolling stock with another PS-1 (Union Pacific) and 3 steel sided reefers (Canadian National, Pacific Fruit, Great Northern). Probably cool it on new additions until York or Allentown in the fall although if I can find a reasonably priced NS Heritage PS-1 boxcar my wife would be happy. Big fan of horses.
Wednesday I found myself in the Baltimore area and decided to drop in on M.B. Klein. Besides some scenery I couldn't leave without this TTX 50' double door boxcar by MTH. Do we ever have enough box cars?
My next "victim" arrived - this Lionel NYC F7. It's a dummy unit but is equipped with TMCC/Legacy so it has headlight, smoke unit and coil couplers. It will be repainted so NYC fans take one last look! It's tempting to turn it into a Penn central unit since it's already black but I already have PC F units and this is destined to become another of my B&O "blue dip" schemes. I have to say, I fully agree with you. In my experience, foliage is not the place to skimp on substance, effort, or spending. Of course, I am biased in that regard because my whole life has been spent in the Midwest and Atlantic - New England areas of the USA, so I model what I have seen personally.
Of course, that also means, if I may add as a kind of footnote, that I have never been to a desert area, so I do not make any attempt to model such real-estate.

Moonson, those are the most realistic-looking trees I have ever seen on a lay-out.
Latest in my lineup of "big steam I didn't really need" (y'know, after the Big Boy and Allegheny):
Honestly, the one YouTube video of this sold me based purely on the sound package. Mr Muffin's steam sale at the time didn't hurt either This class is supposedly the largest 4-8-4s ever built, which only added to the attraction.
To give you an idea of it's size, the ruler in the foreground is 24",

Went to the Texas Transportation Museum a while ago for a car show. They sadly did not have any more in the gift shop, but the guy in the layout room did say the layout's Museum Boxcar could be sold. I've been wanting this one for a while now, even if it is used. But hey, its a rare gem already and even more unique in the sense that it was part of their layout!

Picked this guy up on a deal at a train meet in Hamburg, PA yesterday. Wish I would've arrived sooner- first Railking Railtown building. Always wanted one but the prices at one of my LHS are EXORBITANTLY high and the prices on Ebay have always been high when one includes shipping. This was perfect price. Also, the shrubbery is woodland scenics(the trees) and it's affiliated label "scene-o-rama" which I bought from Hobby Lobby(not including the L-shaped piece). The L shaped piece was in a box I got from my grandfather's sets and is one I've seen on the Toy Train videos narrated by Tom Snyder- would be greatly appreciative if anyone could identify!
Also picked up this Corgi Heritage classics collection at a flea market after the show. My pop got my brother and I 2 of the 5, this is the 3rd. Part of my UN peacekeeping force
Amtrak 25022 from the F40PH set. From eBay. Lights up a bit more nicely and the body color is much 'cleaner' than my other Railking Amtrak coaches considering they're 2003 Railking
Amtrak Consist near full view
Picked these Scene-O-Rama(Woodland Scenics Subsidiary) Civil War figures up at Hobby Lobby, serving as militia against the in-coming UN Peace keeping mission,
While I also included this in the tinplate "buy anything cool lately" wanted to include it here as well since I've been looking for this twin AA Marx SP 6000 for quite awhile at the right price and finally got it
Also bought this wooden kit for a dollar. Northern Refrigerator Car. Co 5770. Roof, sides, underside- all wood- if anyone thinks they may know the maker let me know as I've tried searching to now avail. My dad has a similar kit but that's not all wood and I have a Rock Island Kit by Athearn which is also not completely wood- my dad and I's kits have the labels on the side attached with the use of an adhesive, This box car has the lettering painted on.
This a Brass Williams shark purchase from a member here. Well I think Williams just primed it in Grey and put some decals on. So I contacted a local painter I had seen on Facebook that had posted photos of a number of HO projects he had done. So sent the diesel to him and this is result. He numbered it correctly for the A Unit that ended up going to the D&H and visited Sayre frequently! He also added window glazing, replaced the headlamp, repaired 2 chassis to body mounts, and lightly weathered it!

I have thought the same that the two Geeps would make a great double header. The GP7 was my only Legacy or TMCC engine, so I decided to part with it as opposed to another DCS engine. This MTH GN GP30 came today. It’s been lightly weathered and it has the earlier 5 volt version of PS2. I was able to add it to DCS but it does have some issues. Both couplers fire but neither will open. The front one will open if you pull on it but the rear one remains closed no matter what you do. No interior cab or number board lights. The rear marker lights operate via the interior switch on the remote.
I have always liked the Big Sky Blue livery and GP30s.
More recently purchased items to add later.

I’ve been looking for a copy of Lionel Display Layouts You Can Build by Roger Carp for a few years but, the crazy high prices or poor condition stopped me. Found this one on Amazon for $38, it arrived today and it is indeed in good condition.

I bought this Lionel Rock Island 44-Ton Switcher made in 1993 (year I was born, so that’s kind of cool) from a friend. It’s got a lot of paint scuffs and missing a few of the handrails, but it’s still quite nice. Twin can motors with traction tires make it a good performer, plus it was only $20 so I consider that a win. Not sure I’ll be keeping the Wal-Mart credit card reader horn, though...

A Fleet of Modernism (FOT) RPO to go with my other FOT passenger set, a K-Line diecast PRR gondola with great detail, some holiday cars (Christmas and Hanukkah) and a MOO TOWNE creamery ice cream shop (no trucks so basically a building) that apparently smokes (An ice cream shop that smokes? Great under-car detail (or is it under-carriage detail?) on the gondola.

Great looking engine, Larry! If you look at the rear coupler, there should be a little (rod) down inside behind the knuckle. If you get a screwdriver and push this bar back, you can manually open the coupler. This bar is inside the coils that allow the coupler to fire via DCS. This works on my Atlas C630, so it should work for you.

Thanks NS6770Fan, I will take a look at it.

Arrived a few days ago from White Rose Hobbies. Box corner damage is likely a packing/shipping issue. Advertised as NOS and clearly has been out of the box before (lift ribbons under the locomotive), no signs of being run. Not an expensive item and will be a runner for me, so I’m happy with the condition.

These are great little engines. I have the ATSF model and it's one of my favorites. It even survived a swan dive to the floor with minimal damage. Enjoy! Don't be too disappointed when you hit the whistle the first time......

Okay, I need another MTH loco like I need another hole in the head *BUT* this one has been on my "most wanted" lis for years and years. I bought the nonpowered dummy unit years and years ago and I've been waiting patiently for the powered unit to pop up somewhere for sale.
Voila the MTH Premier B&O GP35:
I have the little tank engine with "600" on the cab & Spokane, Portland and Seattle Ry. on the tank. Neat engine. Had to buy the whole set of log cars just to get the engine.
