I currently have a DCS Wi-Fi  system operating my layout with the old Cab 1 and Cab 1 base wired to one of my TIUs.

I do not like the Cab 2 Legacy and do not want to add it to my layout and since the Quilling Whistle is all that I am really after I have ordered a Cab 1L and Cab 1L base to replace the Cab 1 setup.

My question is how does the Quilling Whistle work on the Cab 1L remote. Do you just push the Whistle/Horn button and leave it pushed longer or what?

Also I was wondering if you can activate an extended startup by using the Cab 1L remote?

Thanks,

Woody

I did download the manual several days ago and I read exactly what you posted. Without having the Cab 1L in hand as it is still in transit, I was wondering how you get the Three (if available) different tones of Whistle/Horn. The manual does not make that clear, it tells you how to set up your Legacy engine for Quilling on the Cab 1L remote but does not actually explain how you get the extra tones in the Whistle/Horn.

Sorry if this is self explanatory once I actually have the Cab 1L in my hand and try it on my layout, I was just curious as how it was done as the manual was not clear on that.

Also the second question I had was whether or not you had the ability to trigger an extended start up sequence as the manual does not mention this. From past experience I have learned that the manuals do not always cover everything and you can learn from fellow hobby members that have figured things out on their own.

Thanks for your help,

Woody

Hi Woody, Once you have set the Horn to Quilling as described int he manual, you get the different intensity blows simply by pressing harder on the horn button.

To your second question, the extended startup sequence can't be triggered by the CAB1L.

Hi Woody,

It sounds like you have a Legacy engine, but unable to access all of its Legacy features because you have the Cab-1L/Base-1L.  With my Windows software and the purchase of either a SER2 or LCS WiFi module and LCS power suply from Lionel, you would be able to access all Legacy features of your Legacy engines without having the Legacy Control System.  Please click on the links in my signature below for more information.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

This was the information that I was looking for. I understood the sliding Whistle/Horn control on the Cab 2 remote and the Lanyard pull down on a tablet running the DCS Wi-Fi, but without actually having used a Cab 1L, I was not sure how a single button would allow you to adjust the Quilling of the Whistle/Horn.

Thank you for answering both of my questions and if you have any personal knowledge of any tweaks or additional features of the Cab 1L that did not get printed in the manual I would appreciate knowing of any.

Thanks again,

Woody

Harvy, I've read some other threads about your software and I know that for TMCC you need to have the USB to serial connection from your computer to the Base, but for Legacy and the LCS Wifi module can you talk directly to the Base-1L with the computer over wifi instead of serial connection?  Also with the Base3 coming out, will your software support PC connectivity over wifi?

Hi Woody,

I am a big fan of the Cab1L controller and use it with a Cab1L base at home and with a Legacy base at my club's layout.  I have turned on the quilling on all of my Legacy engines with that feature.  I found it quite easy to roll my thumb around the whistle button to quill different tones. I admit that with steam locomotives there is slightly more control of tone with the Legacy controller, but with most diesels the Cab1Lcontroller is more than sufficient.

Yes, you can use the Legacy version of my software (eTCC (L))  with the Base 1L and the LCS Wi-Fi module.  You do not need a wired serial connection.  It will also give you access to all Legacy commands without needing the Legacy base.

I have not had time to study the new Base3 yet.  If it uses the same Legacy and LCS command sets, my software should work with it via Wi-Fi.  @Railsounds might be able to help answer that question better than I can at this time.

Thank you for your interest.  Please let me know if you have anymore questions.
