With the Cab3, given how much Lionel is integrating into it, will it have any kind of variable output(s) built in for conventional control (the way DCS TIUs do), or would someone (as I assume) do what they do today, and address a legacy powermaster to control conventional engine via variable voltage (and yes, I realize that Lionel's system doesn't send control signals via the rail, but it would be possible to integrate the powermaster functionality in Base 3 by having a couple of ports with variable power output controlled through the base, and all those ports would do is send variable track power. Having two would allow multiple conventional engines running on different loops).

You will need a Powermaster, or TPC and SER2, or a command transformer like the ZW-L.  No track power goes through the base.
