Can I run Bluetooth Legacy and LionChief 2.0 engines with just a CW-80 and the LionChief app?

Hi everyone,

I'm still a newbie in O-Gauge so go easy on me here.  I was listening to Matt and Matt's podcast episode 4 today and I swear I heard one of them say that if I have a layout that is powered with AC power (i.e. a CW-80 that I have from my Polar Express set), that I can run any LionChief 2.0 engine or Legacy engine so long as I use the Lionchief Bluetooth app.  I do have a Base3 on order but it's gonna be like a year from what I hear before those are ready and Cab2's are long gone so really hoping I don't need to wait a year before upgrading from my conventional and "regular" LionChief locos.  Thoughts?

James,

Bluetooth will indeed work in this situation, however more than one user has reported that the range is rather limited.  This is apparently going to be rectified in newer models coming soon.

Also, in the Legacy line only the newer Legacy locomotives are fitted with Bluetooth, so you'll need to look carefully if you intend to buy any previous Legacy stuff.

LC 2.0 should work fine.
