I have a MTH Railking steam engine. Can it run on O tubular track powered by a ready to run transformer?

Of course, AC is AC, it'll work fine. The only issue is the maximum power required by the MTH locomotive.
But of course; thanks for your reply. MTH cautioned about max 22 volts at no load.

FYI. Mth usually has a list of which transformers will work with their locos in the back of the owners manual.
The CW80 is NOT on that list and some have reported trouble trying to use one with Mth.
Thanks for your reply.

I used to use a Lionel zw250 with a fast blow fuse in line which was fine. Buuuutttttt the issue is that if you have a derailment and or other electrical issue it can damage the electronics in the locomotive. This is what I heard from some people in this forum. So I was a little nervous and purchased a z4000 MTH unit. I also run a TIU and a WIU also on my layout some I didn’t want to take a chance. Good luck
Hi
Thanks for your input. I run my MTH locos using MTH control set-up and have no problem with derailments. The MTH brick disconnects immediately.

The only caveat I would suggest is to be sure to use a more modern Lionel transformer. My first experience with MTH was in 2000 with a recently acquired Protosounds Premier GG1 that I paid nearly retail for. My transformer was a Lionel Z. I didn't know any better at the time, but the voltage spikes from that transformer made quick work of the electronics in my locomotive and I quickly had an expensive doorstop.
It does pay to look at the list of compatible Lionel transformers.
