hello. i have 2 dz-1070 with 2 dz-1008 relays and trying to figure out how to wire them to operate one lionel crossing gate. i have wired one relay and dz-1070 but is it possible to wire two to the gate. thank you

Yes. The relays provide isolation by design. There will be no sneak paths or other weirdness.
Connect both blue wires from each relay together, then connect them to one crossing gate terminal.
Connect both white wires from each relay together, then connect them to the other crossing gate terminal.
I think it depends on which Lionel crossing gate you have. By "wire two to the gate" you mean wire 2 relays to the gate(s)? If you have a version of gates that connect to both the "NO" and "NC" of the relay, then the 2 relays can conflict with each other which generally results in the gate buzzing with no arm motion.

hello and thanks for the reply. stan, i didn't make things very clear and my fault but i am not using the lionel sensor to make these gates work i am using z-stuff dz-1070 sensor and dz-1008 relay. sorry for the confusion. arthur, i am trying to run one lionel crossing gate with 2 z-stuff sensors and relays. is it possible that you could draw it out for me since i am still not getting the whole pitcher. thanks both of you for the response.
LOL. No, I'm the one who was not clear! What I'm saying is it depends on which type of Lionel crossing gate you have. Lionel makes 3-wire gates and 5-wire gates.
In the DZ-1008 instructions for example (shown above), they show a DZ-1008 relay hooked to a 5-wire MTH crossing gate. Lionel makes a similar 5-wire crossing gate as I showed in the previous diagram. That's all I was saying - I understand you are NOT using the MTH 153IR sensor.
I see I'm rambling. Arthur can state it more clearly. I'm suggesting if you have the 5-wire Lionel crossing gate that you cannot connect 2 DZ-1008s to a 5-wire crossing gate because they can conflict with each other if the two DZ-1070 occupancy sensors disagree...such as when the train triggers one sensor but not the other.

hello stan and thanks for the reply. i agree. i finally figured what arthur was trying to tell me and you are right. they conflict each other and for what i want it won't work. the lionel sensors are expensive compared to the z stuff but if i want the real action of the gates i will have to get them. thank you
Lionel also makes two-wire gates. I assumed that you were asking about those.

Right. If you have two relays simultaneously connected "in parallel" to a 5-wire crossing gate, one relay might be telling the gate to go down while the other relay is telling the gate to go up. This is a "classic" problem - that is you have sensors on either approach of a crossing and you want the crossing accessory activated from a train entering from either direction.
The "classic" solution is to add a relay to arbitrate the conflicting controls. That is, the added relay will trip when either or both original relays is triggered. The added relay then sends the gate up or down command without conflict. This is explained in this thread. The relevant picture is copied below:
You do NOT need to buy two Lionel 153IRs. They would have the same conflict problem! In your case you already have two DZ1008 relays. So in the photo above you would replace the "west ITAD" with one DZ1008 and the "east ITAD" with the other relay. You would tie the two "NO" outputs (White wires) of the two DZ1008s together as shown and then over to the added relay module. The DZ1070 sensors are still used as the occupancy sensors - the "east" DZ1070 driving the "east" DZ1008 relay - the "west" DZ1070 driving the "west" DZ1008 relay. You just need to add the arbitration relay (about $10). This is the brute force "classic" solution.
The other idea is to determine if you can have the east DZ1070 and the west DZ1070 simultaneously drive ONE DZ1008 relay. The two outputs of the single DZ1008 would then drive the up and down crossing gate wires. The problem is I looked at the Z-stuff instructions for the DZ1070 and the DZ1008 and I can't figure out exactly what signals/voltages go in and out. They talk about connecting the green wire to the white wire (or whatever) but this level of instruction is not enough to tell me what's going on electrically which is what I need to know. It sure seems to me that someone has run into this problem before (i.e., two DZ-1070 sensor protecting both directions of a crossing). Or inquire to Z-stuff and ask, "How do I connect two DZ1070 sensors to one DZ1008 relay so that either (or both) sensors triggers the relay?"

Stan & bullfroggs;
I just saw this and wanted to indicate what I did for this gate crossing issue.
I have 2 of the MTH 30-11012 gates and I use an Azatrax D2T-Xing board to control them.
It works very well. Costs $39.00.
bullfroggs;
As Stan often points out, it can be done very much cheaper, so if the $39 is a problem, you may wish to roll your own.
Just wanted to contribute.

hello and thank all of you for your suggestions. i am working on getting the relays for this project and will probably post later for more info on the wiring.lol thanks again.
Any help for a very new newbie? I have the Lionel Mainline Auto Crossing Gates that have 3 wires and the Azatrax D2T-Xing. Cannot figure out how to hook up the 3 wires from the crossing to the Azatrax board.
EDIt: Need to state that my relays interconnection shown is based on the assumption that energizing the MTH NC puts crossing gate in open position, and energizing MTH NO puts the crossing gate in the closed position - and the relay interconnection is for wanting the crossing gate to be in the closed position when one (or more ) DZ1008s are energized.
Forgive my crude drawing attached - I only showed relays to gate wiring. Shows how to use two DZ1008 to control MTH 5 wire crossing gate. Can actually use as many relays as you want by cascading as I have show the two relays.
