What else could we do but to share anything Santa was nice enough to bring you or anything else new and wonderful you wish to share. I was really lucky and found three new things under the tree. First was an original Lionel 152 Electric engine....

Second is a great little Hornby platform station which will likely become part of the "under the tree" accessories in the future....

Finally and although not "tinplate", I did get a few more Dept 56 Disney pieces to add to our "under the tree" village (Pooh and Eeyore with their houses).....

Happy New Year to everyone and lets celebrate tinplate!

I picked up this battered Ives 3251 at a meet a few weeks before Christmas.

Pretty rough even for her age at 80+. I purchased a repro bell to replace the missing one, but I'm thinking I may break down and cosmetically restore her (a decision I don't make lightly). One thing strange is she's missing the door on the opposite side...not sure if that punches out or if someone cut it out. I haven't had a chance to diassemble and service, but she runs great after being hosed down with tuner-cleaner. Looking forward to acquiring a few cars to drag around.

Great idea for a new 2012 thread RJ! There are some beautiful and interesting trains under the tree this year! Santa brought me a Märklin RS 13031 No. 1. gauge electric from about 1930. Märklin workers handpainted this locomotive in 1 gauge, while the 0 gauge version of the same loco design was lithographed. To me there is someting very personal and special about holding in my hand a tinplate toy train that was hand painted by someone 80 years ago in Germany. I'm doing some needed repairs and servicing but I hope to have this beauty running real soon.

Update: Rebuilt the pantograph and finished repairs and servicing:

Santa bought himself another red and black 3242R loco. A bit rough but the only one we have seen with an all red frame. They are red over black 99.9% of the time. Check out the Iron Lionel wheels a PO used as replacements. Strangely enough as rough as she is neither die cast pilot is broken. I suppose that is the way it goes. Nice shape = broken pilots and bad shape = good pilots.

Thought I would try out the new forums ability to post photos.  Here is a shot of my new LCT 757W Hiawatha with PS2.0.  I have wanted one of these Hiawathas for as long as I could remember.  The Isaly's reefer behind the engine was a Christmas presnt from my wife.

And on the opposite end of the spectrum here is my "new" Lionel 158 and 822 caboose.  The 820 boxcar and 821 stock car where bought new by my Dad's uncle.
