Charging replacement Green Battery

Hi Friends:

I have an old Proto 1 E-Train Subway that I want to change out the green battery. I have a charger that is both for the round port and two pin, but the car has no exterior charger port.

Is it safe to change battery and just sit it on the track for several hours?

I read on the label they can be charged in a regular 9v recharger, so I'm doing that instead!
