Hello all

knob on top of E unit towards back is to control the manual reverse switch

cameraman may have under-cranked the camera to have the trains speed up on the final film ...action is what the folks want ...not slow moving freight trains ...reminds them of the trip to work this morning

I believe the film was sponsored by Santa Fe ...as a sales tool to get folks to travel to Chicago from LA ...it worked Walt Disney and Ward Kimball jumped the train in 1949 and headed for Chicago

link goes to the entire film ....fast forward to 13:40 to MSI  footage ...

footage taken shortly after opening ...so pure Minton ...which is a bit sparse for many ....open areas filled in with more stuff in later years

Cheers carey

Thanks for sharing Carey:

A question and a couple of points for everyone:

What engine is the Santa Fe using as it pulled out of LA? It looks like an EA1, but the number (13) if I read it correctly should be an E6. Just curious.

My first thoughts as someone from the area, is thank god we don't live with the coal generated power and heating as was shown in this film.

The buildings and skyline of Chicago are way more attractive without all the coal crap covering everything. Just think it you had to breath that in everyday.

Also, it was mentioned in the film that the "L" was to be replaced by a subway. That of course is not true as both modes of transportation are will used today.

What caught my eye was the signage prior to the MSI content. I would have been nice to have a bit more definition, but I'm just happy to have what was shown.

Thanks again Carey.
