I'm a glazer by trade aka glass worker. As I was unloading or shipment of glass yesterday I noticed the walkway was covered with a soft black rubber mat that looked like chopped rubber or cork. It looked just like blacktop. I was wondering if anyone has ever done this before. I haven't had a lot of time to look or research it yet. Just thought I would ask if anyone else had thought of or done this. Sorry for bad spelling and grammar .Its hard to type in a dark truck going down the highway at 5 in the morning with no auto correct. I'm not driving if thats what your thinking. I will try to get a pic.

The rubber mat material would probably work pretty well. The old Moondog Streets were made from formed ground rubber. It should work if the subsurface is even. The only down sides are it's a bit dark and it doesn't look like asphalt. What we use at the club is asphalt roofing paper, but while a roll is around $35 there's so much of it that you'll not only be able to make roads for your layout, but you'll be able to provide road material for several of your friends' layouts. Looks like asphalt road because it's asphalt. Easy to cut (score & snap with an X-acto knife or use scissors) and glues in place.
Here's what it looks like. Through some bizarre miracle, I got everything right on my first attempt. The road is skewed relative to the module and the track is double-skewed relative to the road.
