Does anyone know if the chrome finish on the 400E Presidential Locomotive Set on Page 40-41 will match the chrome finish on the BRUTE showroom cars in terms of appearance? A dealer had the chrome BRUTE cars at York and I couldn't stop staring. The size was really impressive, but the finish was incredible in my opinion. Not hugely reflective (unless it was the light in the hall) but more satin chrome. If these cars match that I'd have to get in on a set. Thanks.

No, the two are different. The showroom cars are finished in zinc chromate, which has a dull finish. The 400E set looks to be chrome.
That's was I was thinking too, but you never know. The zinc chromate is one of the most beautiful finishes I've ever seen. On those large BRUTE cars it was something to behold. Too bad they can't do that 400E set in the same fashion. Would be a show stopper. Maybe they'll do the SUPER 381 in a few years with the zinc chromate...
It seemed to be more reflective to me, like you would see in a chrome set. I was at MTH a few weeks ago and saw the one done up for the catalog picture on the floor in one of the hallways (at least I think that's what I saw.) I asked if that was one of the new tinplate trains for the catalog. That question was answered with "what train".

A chrome finish must be done by the same supplier at the same time. An example is auto finish. Do it all at once, or you'll see the difference. Same here. Most likely not a very big difference, but, a difference for sure.
This set is called the "presidential" set, which name is already taken in the standard gauge tinplate universe, and I can see it leading to unending confusion with the Flyer Presidential set.
I see in the catalog the add-on car is named "Reagan": can anyone with better eyes make out the names of the other cars, or does anyone otherwise know which other presidents the other cars are named after?

Thank you sir. Safe enough choices I guess.
Just take one apart and give it to a plating shop. Thats easy and shouldnt hurt the wallet too much!
