With Ringling's announcement they will no longer use elephants in their show (2017?), it will remove several cars from the train.

Save those pictures, the elephants are all retiring soon.
The elephants ride behind the engine, for ease of spotting the cars for water. I have pulled a lot of circus trains, and am always amazed at how the elephants put their trunks out through the side windows but pull them back in just in time when a signal mast whizzes past the window.
Nice pictures. I have not seen elephants actually boarding a trains before. I Just remember them walking down the street heading to the Arena as a kid from the railroad station.
Incredable video -WOW!
great pictures and awesome video!!! My daughter would have loved to have seen that!!
The pictures at the beginning were taken several years ago in Hershey, PA. The last show at the Giant Arena this year is 1:00pm on Memorial Day May 25th. They walk the elephants down the street behind Hershey Park (Between the Park and Chocolate Ave in downtown Hershey) to the railroad tracks (main line) to load about 4pm. If you are in the area it is still a fun event to watch. Spectators can watch from the sidewalk along the road. My Circus memory is the Ringling Brothers Circus train unloading on 4th Street in Warren, PA during the 50's.
