“Classic Power” series books

a simple google search says:

Classic Power Series #3 USRA 2-8-8-2

Ebay Search:

• Classic Power Series #4 Northern Pacific A class 4-8-4
• Classic Power Series #7 Van Sweringen Berkshires

In My Collection:

• Classic Power Series #5 was the PRR Q Class of Duplex Steam engines
• Classic Power Series  #6 was the  Many faces of the PRR K4
• Classic Power Series #8 was the PRR M1 Mountain Class of Steam Engines

Thanks for your response.  For some reason, Google wasn’t showing anything.  I had better luck with eBay, Amazon and Ron’s Books.  There is a “Classic Power Series 9” about New Haven EP-5 Jets and #2 features the Milwaukee Bi-Polar.      Still looking to see if there are more in the series.  

Is there a GG1 book too?

Fortunately, much has been published about the GG-1 though I’m not aware of any Classic Power series books on this motor.  The first book that comes to mind would be “The Remarkable GG-1” by Karl Zimmermann, a great primer but only b/w photos.  Next, I’d suggest Morning Sun’s “Pennsy Electric Years” vols 1&2.  

My uncle was an engineer for the PRR and finished his career running that motor from NY-DC and return BEFORE the elimination of all grade crossings in the NE corridor.  Sadly, he was involved in some horrific grade crossing accidents involving cars/trucks.

That might be what I was thinking of seeing, thanks.

I just ordered Classic Power 3 off Amazon to add to my existing 5,6 & 8. Another good GG1 book is:           GG1 World’s Greatest Electric Locomotive VOL 1 PRR 1948-67 Robert J. Yanosey

So then, is “9” NH EP-5 as far as this series goes?  Looks like Diesels and /or Turbines weren’t good enough to make the cut.  Do I hear “10”?  Going once...

There is a "Classic Power 3A". This is the expanded 150 page version of "3" which only has 88 pages.

I strongly suggest that any of you that have or are about have the "Classic Power 3/3a 2-8-8-2" book or just want to learn about their operation, go to and save or print out this site: ALCO Mallet Articulated Locomotives. This will clear a mistake or two about the operation of the 2-8-8-2 that is in the book.
