Cleaning old Ives Tinplate

I have an original Ives Tinplate set, it is in pretty good shape, is there a agreed upon method for cleaning the paint?

I am afraid to damage them.

I did see some posts that suggest car wax that post was for a modern MTH Tinplate

any help appreciated
