Could you tell me how hard it would be to put command control and railsounds in a newer bachman by williams gp38 engine? Also how hard is it to up grade a gg1 that has the very early command control to the newer version with cruise control and rail sounds. I really am spoiled with these new fancy gizmows.

Electric RailRoad should have everything you need, at least for the engines.

If the GG-1 has pull more motors, you cannot put cruise control into it.
You can, however, buy a Williams GG-1 and convert it to command and cruise. Your Lionel shell should fit right onto the Williams chassis.
I thought there was a problem with pulmotors but I couldn't remember. You answered the question that was in the back of my mine.

To upgrade your Williams GG1 to TMCC and Railsounds, you will need an AC Commander a Railsounds Commander board (with the GG1 soundset) from Electric RR.
For the GP-38, you can use a DC Commander or Cruise Commander board (Cruise Commander has speed control; DC Commander does not) and the Railsounds Commander board with the EMD/GP soundset.

His GG-1 may not be Williams. It had early command. So good chance it is one Lionel's early units. Would need to know which one it is before giving specific info. G
