I've been slowly working the last few months on enhancing the security on my layout. Finally, I have completed the project.
I tried many new things and over all I am happy with my results. This started as a Lionel bunk car, now it is lettered for the navy as that is the branch of armed services my dad was in. Named it railforce one cause that was code name I gave the project.
It is fully tmcc. Controls the turret and the gun firing and the light inside.
Edit-sorry the video is upside down...I'll try to fix.

yes, it was a challenge, I finally hit the solution after thinking about the clock in my parents living room back home.  The pendulum swing and a clocks hands rotating made me somehow realize I needed a teter/totter like arm that was moved up and down (or in this case left and right) by a cam on a motor.

in this thread the last post shows the inner workings of this car, well before paint, it is still a red bunk car.  That arm in the video pushes the turret back and forth.  I cut out a slot in the roof.

Room on the inside is always the issue!!  These cars seem massive till you start loading up the parts.  I had to drill and file out a hole in the bottom of this one for the motor to go through.  It was too tall otherwise.  And the inside doesn't light as evenly as it could due to a few circuit boards and wires and such.

I was wondering if someone was going to say something about that.  To be honest, I wasn't sure it would turn out, and the bunk car was affordable with power pickup.  Part of my solution to the problem was the smooth plastic sides added in the rear where the turret is - those represent my steel re-enforced area of the car.

I did have an entire back story to the car, but I was so excited when it complete I forgot to write it all out.  The back story also covered the wood/steel issue.  But really, it is a toy train and will look great behind my lionel army engine that fires missiles
