I purchased a Lionel Pacific steamer (used) from trainz.com recently. The sounds didn’t work so I contacted them about it. They answered me immediately and sent me a FedEx call-back shipping label. They notified me when they received the broken engine and again a couple of days later to let me know it had been repaired and was being returned to me. And it was and works good now. Happy.
This is excellent customer service with fine communication. Kudos to trainz!

Their shipping has got faster too. At least for me. Used to wait over a week. Now it's here in a few days.
Great folks to deal with.
I bought several trains and parts from Trainz. Had a glitch in one sale, contacted them about it, and they made good on it.
Yes, their customer service is top notch for sure.
I was going to buy a used Atlas engine from them last week. But, I waited for one price drop, and someone else scooped it up. Kick myself. lol
Dave, it's good to read a positive comment about a company.
I love Trainz! Scott has some good promotions too. I've taken advantage of their "free York pickup" the last 2 Yorks. Picked up a nice 282 magnetic crane and an AA Amtrak Genesis set. I've noticed their descriptions, photos, repair capabilities, and shipping has also all improved over the last year or 2.
I also have had great customer service from Trainz when sometime things go awry. Just had an engine lost in transit and they took care of it! Customer service is the #1 thing to me when I decide to buy from a company or not.
Always visit them at YORK!!!! They come to sell some great trains, rolling stock, passenger cars, etc. Always nice to speak with in person along with a top notch group that works there. Never had any problems.
Never had a bad experience with Trainz. Customer service is one of the best around! And the prices are really great too. Next time I'm in Georgia I plan on visiting their facility.
There seems to be a serious difference of opinion here.
We all apparently have a choice to make:
- Follow this thread, the one you're presently reading
- Or, follow another, related thread: Poor Packing from Trainz ? (9/10/22) | CPF3
Are they not mutually exclusive?
Which will it be?

Pat,
Just pointing out that we posters frequently talk out of both sides of our mouth.
Is that not often true here?
(Sorry if I ruffled your feathers. Do I not have an option to make that point?)

Obviously, folks have different opinions based upon their own experiences. In my case, they could not have handled my problem any better.
There are plenty of negative experiences reported for problems with dealers, but I try to compliment great service when I see it, as here. That's all.
During the past two years, I've purchased three Lionel steam engines from Trainz - a 2-6-0 Mogul and two USRA 0-8-0 switchers - all with TMCC and listed "like new." They were not inexpensive but reasonably priced for engines that had been run very little or possibly not at all. In each case, I found the Trainz online description to be accurate. The engines were packed well and arrived without any damage. All were shipped the day after ordering. The first two took more than a week to go from Georgia to Connecticut but the third one recently made the trip in just two days for a shipping charge of less than $17.

I haven’t gotten anything from Trainz in a hot minute, but I’m guessing they’ve upped their shipping game as far as time,…good for them, and us!!… ……I’m in NC, and it used to take a solid week to get from GA. to NC even though they showed whatever I got shipped the same day or the day after,…….honestly though, I’ve never had a shipping issue with Scott’s place …always seemed well packed. I think at one time he was using FedEx Smartpost, but as we all know, there ain’t nothing smart about Smartpost …….😉

Amen Brother Pat!
File me in the "never had a problem" drawer. I've always had a very positive experiences with my orders; packing was always good.
PROS –
Drastic improvement in packing after sending suggestions.
Great Customer Service above and beyond
Shipping improvements even using Dumb Post service
Annual discount offers, holiday, shipping specials etc.
Points added on purchases
They seem to have stopped using stock photos
CONS –
85% of items are either missing detailed parts or broken. You have to look them over as best you can using the poor photos.
All item photos need a decent bottom picture especially Weaver. The writers have no clue about the item they are listing. Cars don’t require saying, “manual not included, metal wheels or plastic body”. Useless information.
Freight cars just need a good photo to inspect stirrup steps, detailed parts and type of trucks that are on the car. Less inaccurate descriptions, better photos needed.
All saying, they are a great go to on occasion especially when a new collection of abundant cars they bought is listed. Lately, I've had better luck on non-broken items received. No returns.
