My mother suprised me good. While walking through the house she was watching the polar express.Which suprised me so I said"I thought you didn,t like trains."She turned and looked me right in the eyes and said"I never said I didn,t like trains!"She went back to watching the movie.By this time a kid with a funny voice asked about the locomotive pulling the train. My mother said "That kid gets on my nerves."I started listen to the kid with the funny voice. He was talling the kids about 1225.So I told my mother some that what he is saying is true.By the end of the movie the song belive.I started to cry because it made me think of my granddaddy. You see it was he who gave me my first train. It was one of those tin toys.It had a headlight and would move around. If it hit something it would back up whistle.Never thought a movie would have that kind of efect on me.Any wayabout time for my mother to play her dvd of the polar express.I have wondered if tom hanks has stoped by to see the real 1225?And has the movie had any efect on any one other than myself?

Very few, if any train movies, capture the essence of the mystique of railroading as does the Polar Express movie/book. Anyone that wants to get into this hobby must watch the PE movie once and then they will know.

I love the movie, the book and Tom Hanks. As well as the true star of the movie, the Berkshire locomotive. What a beautiful looking locomotive she is.

However, the real story behind this movie is the fact that it brings people together.

That is magic........

We would not miss watching the PE movie during the Christmas season. This movie is so well done and the message never gets old.

This movie has had a huge impact on our hobby. Lionel has sold literally thousands and thousands of the 0-27 sets, but let's not forget how the adults have reacted to this movie by incorporating the scale 1225 and cars to their regular and Christmas layouts. With the 10th Anniversary this year of the movie, there is now the Gold Edition set that has been a huge hit among O-Gauge fans. Add it all up and we as adults love the story as much as the kids do because for most of us, we still BELIEVE

When the movie had first came out.I would tell people thats a real locomotive. Some would just not belive me.How ever when they have seen the movie. The next time they would see me.They would have a funny look on their face and would say"How did you know that?"My reply" Oh that easy I am a train nutt and point to my hat SEABOARD COAST LINE.

Having grown up with and love the book, I was excited when I heard there was a movie coming out.  But then once I saw the previews and read about it, I was so turned off.  To me they ruined the story and made it all about Tom Hanks, so I've never seen the whole thing, nor do I have any interest to see it either.  What I have seen has been enough to confirm my choice.  I know many that do love it, and I even helped my wife's aunt and uncle find and set up one of the Lionel PE sets for their grandkids.  I acknowledge what it's done to help the hobby, but maybe this is my confession, that I hate the PE movie.

As for the emotional response it gives, there is a song that does that for me, that's Big Iron Horses by Restless Heart.  I don't remember how I found the song years ago, but I loved it when I heard it.

I love to read how many folks here love the movie and music!  On a side note, if you don't have the soundtrack album, I recommend getting it!  It's got the movie music for half, then the classic Christmas music that's featured in the North Pole for the second half!

This movie has actually become my favorite Christmas movie of all, and even is in my list of favorite train movies!  The look and feel (not to mention the sound work) is really well done!  My heart starts beating a little faster when that radiator valve in the boy's room sounds the whistle - I love it!

There is a story that when the motion capture filming was completed, Tom Hanks trolled hobby shops near the studios to find a vintage Lionel Berkshire.  Not sure how true that is, but given his love of artifacts relating to movies he's been in (the models he shows his son in Apollo 13 were his personal ones from when he was little, along with him taking some prop packets of Tang from the set when filming completed) kind of leads me to think he did that.

But this movie hits the Christmas feel and that it's a constant presence on TV just shows how much a family movie it is.

A movie the whole family can see, with nothing objectionable in it - what a concept!

I am thinking he got one or 2.I know if I owned a train store and mr hanks came in.I would just almost freakout.I hope he has a train setup.

I have moved the Bell from the Den layout to next to my computer.

It kept disappearing and showing up in a pile of toys somewhere.

My grand daughter loves that bell and it's still loud and clear for me.

She recently saw the movie for the first time (She's only 11 months old) and every time she heard Tom Hanks talk she would look around for my train !

I'm afraid I may have confused her by putting the train out last month before she saw the movie.
