Can I control the DCS Remote Commander unit with my original DCS remote (with the green display, the full featured one that goes with TIU), as opposed to using the small one that comes with the remote commander and has limited functions?

It would be nice to get a DCS signal and power straight from wall power to track, via DCS remote commander unit, but take full DCS control using my tried and true DCS remote with smoke on/off feature and all the bells and whistles (pun intended) so we can enjoy the Christmas tree set up, easily control all the DCS features for guests by remote (a lot of people hate smoke so it's nice to toggle that on and off from the other side of the room). I want to save myself from having to get the TIU involved, and all that gear near a living, watered, tree.

Can I do this?

While you can have both the DCS Remote Commander receiver and a TIU channel connected to the same loop of track and use them together, you cannot control the same engines with both controllers for two reasons.

First, once an engine is added to the DCS Remote it is assigned a DCS ID# between 1 and 99. The DCS Remote Commander, however, can only operate engines that have never been assigned a DCS ID# or have been factory reset after being assigned one.

Second, the DCS Remote communicates with the TIU using the 900 MHz radio frequency while the DCS Remote Commander handheld device communicates with its receiver using infrared signaling.
