Hey guys, First time posting anything on here that I have built. I have just finished up the basic part of my cool little shell gas station. I saw one of these stations on a road trip years ago and have thought for years it would be cool to add one to my layout, so I set out to build "my version" The shell was carved in modeling clay then casted in hydrocal. The walls are styrene laser cut with wood inner structure and the windows and door are all laser cut wood. I still have to finish the signs and the oil display (seen between the pumps). I even scratch built the gas pumps from styrene before casting in resin.

WOW! I never imagined such feedback on this. Thanks everyone for your kind responses! I did put a lot of work into this and it came out much better than I hoped. There are so many gas station kits out there and I just wanted something different. I have been looking for the next project to start on, looks like Russ may have given me a few good ideas.

That is fun!  Nicely done, too.

I agree, the Corvette is a good choice.  Good color contrast/match with the station.  A Camaro would be too recent.  Most of these art-deco and "silly mode" gas stations and such were in the '50s.  Many survived into the '60s and beyond but why not pair them with a '50s vette or something similar.  Nice choice.

if you have the mold for the pumps why not offer them here for sale?

i would buy a few!

on other notes:

what resin? what: mold / brand?   did you cast the shell in alginate and then plaster?

asking from experience and to educate the masses.

 great work!

Camaros are #1, Bought mine brand new at Nickey Chevrolet in Nov of 68, Just a standard SS350, brought it back a few months later for them to drop in the L88 427, still have the car, 31,000 miles.

I did make molds for the whole station except the parts I cut with the laser... Just used a pourable silicone and then basic casting hydrocal. The walls are all laser cut with matboard interior and styrene outer.

I am also working on a few more different style pumps for another gas station I am working on, which should be done in a week or so.

Anyway I have had several email requests asking for the pumps and for me to make them a gas station as a kit. While this was not my original intention, I am able to do this. So I know your not suppose to list things for sale here and being my first post I don't want to step on anyone's feet, but if your interested in gas pumps or the station as a kit, please send me an email and I will be able to help you out, email in profile. The pumps can be made a different brand too. Again thanks everyone for your responses!
