Pictures of a K Line box van. There are several variations of K Line vans, this is the three piece version with the cast frame, plastic body and cast roof (obviously) Never seen one like this before. Bought 2-22-25 still in a factory tape sealed box. Already working on a new roof from sheet plastic.
Add another item to the list of potential items that this should never be happening to. At least it isn't a $1000 dollar (or less) locomotive.
I have a few examples of zinc rot: MTH RK PRR torpedo tender, Kline GGI truck sideframes, Weaver troop sleeper frame and body, and front couplers on Atlas O Erie Builts. A small percentage of my collection but I do worry about what will happen down the road.
Are there certain manufacturers who seem to have this problem more than others? In my case there are at least four with the problem.
I don't suppose you can do anything to prevent this.
