So here's the basic question, can I swap out a cherry switch for a hall effect sensor and vice versa? This would be for triggering a RailSounds board. I have run into this a few times where I had one or the other on hand but what broke was always the one I didn't have. Yeah, I know, buy more parts!! This is just me wanting to know something new.
So to place a Hall effect where a Cherry switch once lived, I think would need the following: a +5 volt DC source to drive the sensor, a bracket to hold the sensor, and a new axle with the round magnet installed.
If I look at it the other way, how to replace a hall effect with a cherry switch, I would need: 1) a mounting bracket (or some JB Weld 
), and an activation mechanism to slap the Cherry switch when I wanted a chuff!
Either way sounds like a lot of work for little gain, certainly would have been easier to just buy a replacement of the same type! But I'm still curious to know the answer.
