I was looking for alternatives to homosote, etc. at Home Depot and I came across 4 ft wide rolls of cork underlayment used for flooring. Was anyone used this and then put Midwest cork roadbed on top of this?
Never used the stuff myself, I do use the acoustical block tile they have on my 1st platform level, you might want to take a look at it, my FasTrack layout works very well on it, especially with the Green inside/outside carpet over it. Minimum noise level for sure.
I went with the HD Sound Choice board, and the sound isn't bad with my FasTrack thrown up there. Once I get the Midwest cork and Atlas track on it I'm sure it'll be just right sound wise.
What about using carpet under the fastrack as a roadbed?
The carpet-central trains I have run were the quietest ever. I run a slot car track on carpet and love the quieting effect on the 4 lanes of cars. Since I have some green carpet left over I intend to use it under my upcoming layout.
