Just general info, I don't believe anyone was hurt, quite a mess...

 

Info from a friend of a friend, etc.

 

"CP Rail had a derailment on a railway bridge near Sudbury, Ontario on 2nd June, causing several cars and containers to fall into the Wanapitei River.  News reports suggest the bridge collapsed under the train, causing the derailment."

Wow! The bridge collapsed under the weight of the train? I would have assumed that the bridge inspection process would have identified deficiencies well before it reached this point. 

 

(I learned what "guard rails" are from Rich in Roman's post about them. And, there they are.)

CP Rail news release said journal bearing failure resulted in car derailing.  Derailed car hit bridge knocking it down.

Makes sense. Just look how far apart the guard rails are from the end rails...

And with this train pulling double stacks with tight clearence fo the upper truss beams...


this appears to be a disaster waiting to happen.
