Hey all,

I'm finally to a point where I'm building some grade crossings on my layout and I want to have crossing gates at some of these points. I've been leaning toward the z-stuff DZ-1010 crossing gate set but they have been on back order for a long time...at least according to the website, so I guess I'll have to look elsewhere.

I'm looking for something that is scale and preferably has sound as well as motion activation so as to avoid extra wiring...though having sound takes precedence over motion activation.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks,
Eric Siegel

Eric-

Tomar Industries makes a very nice scale operating crossing gate and flasher too. The flashers are LED and the gates are powered by Tortoise switch machines. Unfortunately they're on the pricier side; Lionel's Mainline Crossing Gates (6-14098) are a less expensive option.

If you are looking for flashers only, consider Custom Signals' line.

Eric:  I'm just curious...by chance I just saw your Atlas Block Signal instructional wiring video...are those block signals scale sized?

Thank you.

Yes they are O scale: I have them on my layout and Eric's video was helpful.

RAILKING 30-11006 CROSSING SIGNAL WITH BELL SOUNDS

I plan to add an ITT HQ300-3 bell sound module along with my MTH #30-11006 Crossing Signal.  The sound module will be installed in a small custom built electrical signal cabinet similar to the photo as shown. The speaker will be installed in a Walthers (Atlas) O Scale Speeder Shed.

The crossing lights and bell will be triggered by IR sensors installed along the track.

Traditional mechanical grade crossing bell sound module from Innovation Train Technology. Sound module measures 1.5" X 3.0" X .4" and consists of a voltage regulator, sound chip, amplifier, volume control and terminal strips. Runs on 9-18v DC, 4-18v AC or 9-12v battery.
