Cruise Commander with Railsounds 5.0 Board?

Not true - Legacy Sound systems cannot be purchased without the turn in.  Railsounds 5.0 can be purchased.  I know this for a fact because I called Lionel (you have to call to order) and purchased 3 Railsounds 5.0 boards:

Ok, Good to know.  Interesting that you have an web based system, but more and more parts seem like you have to call to get.  Kind of defeats the web base system.  G

Apologize for digging up this topic again, but I ran into an unusual issue when doing another one of these upgrades.

I did the same as I usually do - connect the wires from the Cruise Commander to the RS powered motherboard, and that to the speaker (in this case it's a dual small FatBoy by ERR). I decided to test it, but no volume seems to come out. The Cruise Commander does respond (testing direction and ElectroCoupler), but no sound.

For the record, I DID solder the jumper wire to the two holes where the volume pot as discussed earlier in the post.

Does the powered sound board work in conventional mode if you unplug the Cruise Commander?  If not, I'd test the sound board independently to see if it works.  The board should come up in conventional mode with just power and the speaker, that assumes the volume jumper is installed.

Sure enough, the sound doesn't come up in conventional mode either.

I tested two different powered motherboards (with the same audio jumper) and two different audio boards just to be sure, and same results.

Well, I'm at a loss.  Power and speaker should be all it takes to power them up in conventional mode.  Time to start checking voltages on the RS board pins and see if the power supply is putting out power.
