Another pic I found in my uncles stuff - this time a crazy double nose F3!

I suspect this picture was taken around the mid 1970s. (sorry its a not that great a shot - but you get the idea)

I did NOT find this loco in with his collection when I took inventory. Wonder if its still floating around somewhere?

But I DID find the remaining cab cutoffs - that were assembled into a sort of a short B Unit...same black bodies.

I'm mostly curious about how he made the frame for this thing? - That had to be some custom cutting!

I'm not sure why you couldn't just take two F3 units and hack the frames at that point and then join them.

Probably for Weight and cost. IF you didn't have the metal and the motor oles in that metal and all you had are these two die cast frames that do have the motor holes and mounts...

This model was a poor mans way of doing a CNJ Double ender. Remember in the 1970's there was no O gauge PA's and their 6 wheeled trucks!

A couple of years ago I bought a collection from a fellow co-worker. As I was going through it, I noticed a 2344C NYC Dual motored B unit. I took it apart and boy did it look factory, right down to the paint. You could see no cut marks, no anything. The owner of the collection had passed away, so I couldn't go back and ask him. It took me a while to research and make sure that I had a modified unit, because I had never seen nor read anything about Lionel manufacturing a NYC dual motor B unit, that's how professional it was done. So although my dual A unit can pull some cars, when I need that extra power for that extra long freight train shelf queen,I know I have it! LOL!
