In the later 1970's I rode the Amtrak PANAMA LIMITED from Chicago Uinion to New Orleans twice. Great memories this thread is bring up.

The IC "Split Rail" logo came into being in 1968. Was modified in 1972 for the Illinois Central Gulf merger.
In 1988, the ICG divested itself of many of the ex-GM&O lines and returned to the Illinois Central name with the "Death Star" logo:
